Just found this thread and started reading about the new focus on work experience. Uh-oh. Trying to finish my aps by the end of this week.

Also, for the sake of discussion, would any of you choose H over Y if admitted to both? Why?
This (potential, if lucky) choice haunts me every day.

I think you will be deciding between going to a school with no merit scholarship or going to somewhere with no billjdstl wrote:Just found this thread and started reading about the new focus on work experience. Uh-oh. Trying to finish my aps by the end of this week.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
IMO, one of the core differences between H and Y (generally, not just the LS) is that H is more concerned with who they think you're going to be and Y is more concerned with who you are at the moment.jdstl wrote:Also, for the sake of discussion, would any of you choose H over Y if admitted to both? When put this way, the decision to attend one or the other can be determined by whether someone treasures everything she has done up to the point of admission or whether her potential excites her more than her experiences.
I'm not applying to Y (not interested in attending) so H wins for me.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
But the probability of you realizing that potential is somewhat accurately indicated by the sum of your previous experiences... I know education will help in that aspect, but you shouldn't make them mutual exclusive, the most successful persons should most likely be excited by her experience and her potentials.Mrs. Jack Donaghy wrote: When put this way, the decision to attend one or the other can be determined by whether someone treasures everything she has done up to the point of admission or whether her potential excites her more than her experiences.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Just finished my JR1 today! Pretty standard questions, barreled into my answers and maybe ended up a wee bit meandering (but at least I didn't stammer or freeze up!). Almost exactly 5 min. Here's hoping it went well... first decisions in late Nov (as usual)!

Don't be thrown by the brevity. My JR1 was 3 minutes long.
Things worked out fine for me.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Question: If one has not received a JR1, but submitted prior to those who have currently received JR1s, is that a sign that one's application has been passed over?
Someone mentioned that because how they distribute the files for review, you may end up getting a JR1 later than others submitted around the same time. It's still early, I would give it another 2-3 weeks then start worrying (after the massive wave of Oct LSAT files go complete).
Did they defer/hold some files til later last year? Did they notify the holds?

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Yes they sent a hold email to some applicants but that happened in March. If you miss the JR1/JR2 window by more than 2 weeks (compared to others who applied around the same time as you did) you'll probably get the hold/WL. I do remember a few instances of people getting JRs way outside of that window but it was uncommon.r6_philly wrote:Did they defer/hold some files til later last year? Did they notify the holds?

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
IIRC, Harvard is notorious for doing a lot of holds via email (especially so for URM applicants). Unfortunately, I cant remember whether the holds always come before JR1s.r6_philly wrote:Question: If one has not received a JR1, but submitted prior to those who have currently received JR1s, is that a sign that one's application has been passed over?

Thanks guys. So I will watch this for another 3 weeks then. Hopefully by then other decisions will start to come out so I wouldn't have to dread over no JR1 if I don't get one. Long shot anyway, my LSAT is worth less as each administration goes by.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
Downside of applying early is the wait.. It is going to be even worse when the first wave of decisions come out. I know that if I am not in the late Nov. wave I am just going to assume rejection to preserve my sanity.r6_philly wrote:Thanks guys. So I will watch this for another 3 weeks then. JR1 emails began coming out significantly earlier this year than in previous seasons (I believe this week was the time at which the first emails were sent last year).
Also, all those who have received emails thus far appear to be more or less in the "auto-admit" category for one reason or another. If you don't receive a JR1 before Thanksgiving, then you have something to worry about, but at this stage of the game, I think it is very realistic to maintain hope.

Why do you think this is the case? Any chance we get earlier decisions as a result?JR1 emails began coming out significantly earlier this year than in previous seasons (I believe this week was the time at which the first emails were sent last year).
Is this any different from pre-Thanksgiving JR1s last year? Also, all those who have received emails thus far appear to be more or less in the "auto-admit" category for one reason or another.

I hope that earlier interviews mean earlier decisions, but I know that JR told me late November was the target time frame for the first wave of decisions to come out.
Regarding the second question, I have no idea, but I sincerely doubt I am an auto-admit based on my numbers, FWIW.

Re: Harvard 2011 Applicants
I am hardly an auto-admit either, but I must say I don't mind the idea of getting an acceptance letter in the next week! lol
I applied over a week ago, and was just told yesterday that my application is 'currently under review.' It makes me WAY nervous, to say the least.
Good luck to everyone else going through the same!!

Yep, I was also told late November, hopefully that means before Thanksgiving... Also I wouldn't call myself an 'auto-admit' but hopefully competitive! (are there even auto-admits for HYS?
