Wow, I guess that's the reward for scrambling and submitting by the Feb 1 deadline.

This is awesome news. Good work, Chicago, I'll stop bitching about having to fill out all those forms in a rush.

does this include people who aren't getting merit aid? like, will they tell us we aren't? (is this a dumb question?)

Can you ask about how many ED's get a merit award each year? I am curious if she will spell out "zero" or simply use '0'.

I'm guessing if we don't hear by next Friday, we aren't getting any (which is the boat I'm expecting to fall into). It'll just be nice to know.

She told me that EDers have gotten merit aid in the past. I didn't ask her specifically how many got merit aid each year, though.

I think they'll tell us if we don't qualify for need-based aid.

I am guessing that if the number of students awarded aid was just good enough to be marginally significant (even one or two per year)she would have given a number instead of merely indicating that it has happened (once, twice?).

<Karla>this process is very personal
<Karla> it is not formula
<Karla> we truly think about the awards and we offer what we can
<Karla> two admits with the same numbers will not receive the same award
So basically the awards will make sense to them and seem random to us.

I appreciate this. A lot better than the lack of surprise when opening my envelope from Michigan, knowing exactly what I'd be getting.

ha, actually it was like 10:50 EST. so 11:50 central? I didn't even think about that - cutting it close!

edit: and then I realized I can't tell time. 9:50 central...

read the first line twice thinking wtf? until I read the edit :)

Interesting to see if that cuts it, my own thoughts were to always have it in by close on the day of the deadline, but many people seem to use midnight as a cut off.

Yea. It is awesome getting into all of these schools is great and everything... but getting in only seems like 75% of the battle with a poor economy and COA so high financial aid is HUGE.
