Do people ever get off the waitlist here? Vandy was one of my dream schools, and I'd love to climb my way out of limbo somehow.

I mean I feel like you never really know how things turn out by peoples numbers. If they are too high they might YP, if they are too low, they might like you just because. If your median, its 50/50... I give up trying to predict bc admissions make no sense

yeah people do get off the waitlist. vandy doesn't use their waitlist as much as georgetown does, but it uses it more than cornell and uva use theirs. also splitters and reverse splitters seem to get accepted off the waitlist in equal proportions.Chelios wrote:Do people ever get off the waitlist here? I guess we'll find out today if 2/2 was the acceptance batch. Acceptances are sent out via priority mail (approx. 2-3 days delivery time)....so I would think that at least some of the 2/2 people would be getting a package today if they were admitted.

Complete on 12/9.... Still nothing.
I admit, it would be an act of God if I got in, since my numbers are not in the range, but I was SOOOO in love with the school after my interview, I had to apply.

Also depends on if DM means it is in their queue to be mailed, or if it means the USPS already has the package/letter.Sauer Grapes wrote:I would love to find out today, but I'm guessing it may not be until tomorrow. Bah-my mailman is arguably the slowest in the nation. I'll find out by next week, I'm sure.
Still, it will be good to hear from everyone else first; knowing that I'm not alone has really helped me deal with this cycle.
Good luck to all of us!!!

My mailman takes a solid 2 weeks at least to deliver a decision. I feel your pain.monkeygirl wrote:Bah-my mailman is arguably the slowest in the nation. I'll find out by next week, I'm sure.

What it says, and what actually happens are two different things. So far the most of the people who have been accepted have found out within 2-3 days of their DM date, unless they just weren't home or didn't check their mail. The 7 day disclaimer is used by alot of school, mainly to discourage people from calling the office. Rejections or waitlists obviously take longer becuase they are just sent regular mail...but the point of priority mail is for it to arrive quickly.

Between 2/2 and 2/3 it's pretty unclear.
For 2/2: We have (171 and 3.6), (170 and 3.7-3.8 ), (166 and 3.67), (162 and 3.85)
For 2/3: (169 and 3.5), (168 and 3.8 ), (166 and 3.87).
Also, my mailman came today (I'm 2/2), and there was nothing from Vanderbilt. I guess tomorrow is the day.

They might be mixing up batches. I know a few VULS students have commented that the adcom is aware that neurotic TLS posters attempt to predict mail dates as particular batches and they're mixing them up more than they used to.

Re: Vanderbilt 2013
What's the harm in providing a few clues to TLS'ers about decisions? In fact, if people sort of know before they know - wouldn't this potentially reduce call volume to the admissions office in regards to people wanting their decision over the phone? I once sat for fifteen minutes in an admissions office and listened to the secretary field at least five phone calls about whether she'll give them a decision over the phone. I understood immediately how annoying those calls are for them.

Why at ND? They don't even include sexual orientation as part of its non-discrimination clause. You may be right for Vandy as they seem to recognize that there is an issue in the region and even at the university and that addressing it is a good idea. I don't think the same holds for ND.Cupidity wrote:Decision Mailed Date: 02/03/2010

I think the real Vandy issue is that they seem to be WLing 166s like no one's business this cycle, but hopefully they'll bite with your exceptionally strong GPA.td6624 wrote:Why at ND? Re: Vanderbilt 2013
Vandy and ND are two schools that are making a serious effort (from what i've heard) to recruit GLBT students in order to counteract their homophobic reputations. Now I don't know how true this is, but maybe it'll get me some action there. My resume is nice too, not much work experience, but it has half a page--single spaced size 11 font of 1 line campus leadership titles I hold, and I don't mean, "club president", I mean "board of trustees", "faculty senate X committee", "teaching assistant"
