it's not that bad! adventures abound!
though i did see somewhere on here someone mentioning that six bucks for a beer was really expensive, which made me wonder how much people pay for beer in other places.

Also, I've seen on the Penn thread that you prefer Philly over NY -- Honestly, I've lived in both, and Philly is WAY scarier (and I've worked in the South Bronx). COL is less, sure, but I used to live across the street from a McDonald's that had been shut down b/c there were "too many" gang shootings there.

Guinness is that expensive for you? It's probably $3 at the sports bar I go to.

I can't really remember tbh. It could be around $4. It's not that popular in Texas

What is scary about NYC is not the concept that I will be mugged, but the concept that I will be homeless and destitute from the insane housing market.
Also I actually like philly.

five bucks wouldn't be too far off from nyc prices -- 5 or 6 for a guiness, stella, etc at a decent manhattan type place.

There are plenty of bars in Manhattan where you can get domestics on tap for 4 dollars. The difference really becomes pronounced at the upscale places that charge $10 for a beer just because they can.

definitely true. and just because the upscale places exist in manhattan doesn't mean everyone who lives there is forced to frequent them. they're like the extra hot sauce on your sundae. if you can afford the calories, go for it. if not, you're still getting ice cream.

Well, that's a different story. My boyfriend grew up there, so he loves it too...I guess it takes all kinds
But you won't be destitute, honestly. It just seems like you'd rather not live in NYC, which is totally fine. I'm sure you'll get in somewhere that you'll enjoy living.

Right. If you like hot sauce on your sundaes? And if hot sauce had calories?

I assume she meant hot fudge/syrup? The first time I read it, I was, "wait.....what?"

I think alot of big cities are like that. There are places here where you can get a beer for $8+. Then there's dive bars where you can get them for less. Happy hour off Greenville $1 beers.

I prefer le liquor though....
