Under review, in reference to the stage in law schools' review process following complete. The term is most often used by people who are into obsessively monitoring their status checkers and using the date changes there to predict when a decision might come.buffy123 wrote:What does UR stand for

Also got the interview invite yesterday. Does this invite allude to anything in particular?

Re: Chicago C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I interviewed last week (admitted just a couple days later) and thought it was enjoyable despite having a super deadpan interviewer. I'd say to prepare thoroughly from the questions in this thread, and continue to be warm and personable no matter what--don't let the interviewer's responses throw you off your game.Budfox55 wrote:Interview Invite this morning. UR 12/20. I've read through the advice already on the thread, but I still have to ask...anyone have any good advice, pointers, or general wisdom that they would like to impart?
I also found this very helpful for my first skype interview earlier this cycle: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/pers ... w/2608915/

So I've seen conflicting accounts regarding whether or not Hyde Park is a safe area to live in. Granted, I'm not a big city kid - I grew up in rural Tennessee - so perhaps I'm just overhyping myself regarding safety in major US cities. Anyone have definitive knowledge on this topic?

I grew up in rural Tennessee and went to Chicago for undergrad. Hyde Park is totally safe. You can PM me if you want more info.wilfred wrote:So I've seen conflicting accounts regarding whether or not Hyde Park is a safe area to live in. Poking around various forums/websites on Google regarding the question yields a slightly mixed bag, though certainly the consensus appears to be that it is "safe if you're smart." Which I take to mean not traipsing around alone after dark while under the influence or wandering too far away from campus. If it is overblown, so much the better! I'm not on the offensive, just thought I'd check about it.Wahrheit wrote:What do you mean, "conflicting accounts?"wilfred wrote:So I've seen conflicting accounts regarding whether or not Hyde Park is a safe area to live in. The tl;dr is that Hyde Park is really quite safe, and the fearmongering about the city of Chicago generally is completely overblown. I've never felt unsafe walking around in the neighborhood, and UCPD will follow you as you walk somewhere if you like. If you have any specific questions, others and I can answer those, too.
I did have specific questions, but that link seems to be addressing them. Thanks for providing it!

Not the original asker but thanks for posting that link. I lived in Chicago as a kid but my family moved out west when I was still too young to know much about anything. Stoked to potentially be back in Chicago but coming to terms with the fact that I am at this point a know-nothing Jon Snow when it comes to my hometown. Interview tomorrow. Going in with the expectation that the interviewer is just gonna scream at me the whole time so I'm not caught off guard at the icy Chicago interview attitude I've heard so much about.

Re: Chicago C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I think that Hyde Park is pretty safe. I wouldn't call it dangerous.
That said, Hyde Park is located on the south side of Chicago. It's sort of a weird island of niceness in the middle of a lot of very troubled neighborhoods. So a lot of times if you want to go out, your option is Hyde Park, or driving or taking transit to the loop. So sometimes there's a kind of odd feeling like you're in a bubble. However, Hyde Park is extremely diverse, so it's a very interesting and varied bubble! And taking the bus to the Loop is really not a big deal at all.
The nice thing about Hyde Park for a first-year law student is that it essentially has everything you need, and has a very small-city feel. I really enjoy the coziness of it and its lack of pretension. A lot of the bars and restaurants are just simple, decent, reasonably priced places. People are friendly and community-oriented. A lot of our professors live in the neighborhood. It's very easy to get around on foot or via free transit.
Plus, all of the university's resources and events are right here. It feels like a (great) college town within a 15-20 minute bus ride of a world-class city. I really adore it, and hope to stay here for as long as I can.

Don't stress! The woman I interviewed with was pretty businesslike but not unfriendly in any way. She also had internet connectivity problems and had me call on the phone while still Skyping so that if the video froze we could keep talking, which was nice. Hopefully you get to interview with her too!gamerish wrote:Interview tomorrow. If your interview is with Dean Perry then you will likely fall into this categoryliyorah wrote:+1jtg21 wrote:+1Po$eidon wrote:My interview was super enjoyable actually.gamerish wrote:Interview tomorrow. I just adore Dean Perry. (Pretty much everyone does.) We get to see her around the school a lot, which is nice.

My interviewer was great. I mean she definitely didn't act like she wanted to be my bestie, but she was friendly in a professional way. I made the mistake of reading up on UVA's clinics before my interview and accidentally started talking about a clinic that is specific to only UVA. She gave me the "do you mean this clinic?" and while I totally didn't, she gave me the opportunity to save face. Sooo don't worry too much about what people have said in the past and good luck!gamerish wrote:Hoping I'm blessed with whatever angel you guys interviewed with.
