Their need-based aid seems to have a merit component though so you'll probably still get money if you have competitive numbers.

How do you know this? What do you mean exactly? I don't think applying for need-based aid is going to net me anything, is Columbia a special circumstance?

I phrased that poorly and am gonna go back to last year's thread to check again for concrete examples so just disregard the comment in the meantime

Same: GPA=50th, LSAT>75th. Guess there is no Butler or Hamilton in the works, as it doesn't seem like those folks had interviews.

Not to be a total pessimist, but does this mean that not hearing anything from Columbia today (or Monday at the latest) means it's more possible you're dinged/wait-listed? If you look closely, a significant number of people were admitted in the first week of February in each of the past three cycles. After that, as you said, acceptances become more scattered. I think people who haven't yet heard have nothing to worry about for at least another week.

Also to be clear, looking at the timelines there doesn't appear to be much correlation between when you applied and when you're admitted. Last cycle, just as many October-November applicants were admitted in the last week of Jan / first week of Feb as December-January applicants.

ETA: in other words, it's not just January applicants who might expect to hear in the next week.
