i was just offered an interview. I'm <25% GPA and exactly at Median for LSAT. White male. Someone who has interviewed - what did they ask etc. Have interviewees been successful in getting in?

It is all the usual questions. They can be found earlier in this thread.
I interviewed and got put on hold. So not all have been successful.

Nope. I got a complete application email on January 5th and sent in updated grades a few days later and nothing.yamamoto90 wrote:Congrats dlrkgml!!!
Has anybody who applied in mid-January heard back yet? My application went complete on January 21st and I'm just curious to see if admissions has gotten to that time frame yet.
Just praying now!

There's really not much of a trickle from them, especially for those of us who applied in 2014. It seems like they're just periodically accepting January applicants lately.w0w wrote:So the trickle begins.

My letter came in a sky blue envelope. Got a Butler so maybe the envelope is different, but it might help calm your nerves a little. Hahaub3r wrote:Schools I've already been accepted to need to stop sending me thick white envelopes with brochures

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Just got the email that I've been placed in the Hold category. I applied way back in early November and I'm above both 75ths. I also don't think my softs/PS suck because I've been accepted at a bunch of schools that place a lot of importance on the PS so far. Are they doing some kind of YP thing or do they actually hate me for some reason?
Based on predictor websites it seems like it is quite rare for someone with my stats to not be accepted so I have to say I'm a little taken aback that they need more time after I submitted in early November and will have no new information for them before late April.
Also does this mean I'm out of the running for any kind of scholarship money?

Just held at Columbia, first contact since I submitted in September. 173/3.98
I don't know if they didn't like my application or this is YP, because I think my numbers are too low to be a traditional yield protect here

The only way I see yield influencing ranking is in the proportion of applicants accepted.
I think USN&WR is incenting the wrong behaviors.
YP is like telling a member of your preferred sex that you can't talk to them because he / she's too kind / smart / funny / etc.

but what if you have reason to believe that the person will leave you/play you because they are just too good for you?butSeriously wrote:Scanning: http://www.usnews.com/education/best-gr ... ngs?page=3Mack.Hambleton wrote:I think I'd still say its YPlashley wrote:Just held at Columbia, first contact since I submitted in September. 173/3.98

Think about if Tinder let you review all your potential matches but only swipe right on a certain number. Would you swipe right on the hottest girls available? Or would you swipe right on girls you predict will swipe right on you? You'd probably swipe right on the ones with whom you are most likely to match. That's YP.butSeriously wrote:YP is like telling a member of your preferred sex that you can't talk to them because he / she's too kind / smart / funny / etc.

This is a nice analogy.nickhalden wrote:Think about if Tinder let you review all your potential matches but only swipe right on a certain number. Would you swipe right on the hottest girls available? I agree about the weird incentives. I would only encourage folks to think about the strange incentives that permeate the entire system, not just the ones that are directly discriminating against them. For instance, discounting high scorers' tuition and having low scorers subsidize them. This, for instance tends to create greater economic disparities in the country.
But being interested in this kind of thing might be asking too much?

Is it possible that Columbia will be shrinking their class size this year? Seems to be one possible reason that people with near auto admit numbers are getting held.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Columbia is the most confusing admissions stats thus far for me...
As a borderline-stats applicant, I can only wait for my ding to come any day now because I have no idea what on earth is happening in those adcom offices wow
Sorry to any of you who were really wanting Columbia but I would assume theyre taking a lot more held/WL applicants than year's past unless they are decreasing the class size

Well, people in the USNWR new rankings thread are saying that Columbia falls this year. Maybe you guys don't want to be on that sinking ship.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
