It's essentially a priority/preferred waitlist. But a WL nonetheless. Pretty strong signs that it's a measure of YP as well, much like other WLs at the other lower T14s.NoBladesNoBows wrote:Found out a few hours ago that I got Priority Reserve :-/
Can someone explain to me what this is? Is it good or bad? I did some searching through the forums but couldn't really find a consensus. Some seemed to claim it was more of a YP method than anything, but others seemed to equate it to the waitlist...

I signed my scholarship application last week but forgot to scan and email it...and now everything's closed because of this crazy storm. There isn't a deadline for emailing the scholarship application right? A little worried that I'm taking a bit too long to send the application back and it may have a negative impact...

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
YP and WL aren't mutually exclusive...A WL is the strongest indicator that one has been YP'd. I think if you're above both medians you can probably assume it was YP. Write optional essays from now on because other schools are even worse about it (UVA and Penn).NoBladesNoBows wrote:Thanks for clarifying. Considering the fact that I wrote no optional essays and essentially addressed their additional PS requirement by adding a quickly written page onto the end of my already written PS, is it reasonable to assume that I am more on the YP side? Or should I just suck it up and accept that I got waitlisted?lc39 wrote:It's essentially a priority/preferred waitlist. But a WL nonetheless. Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Thanks for the congratulations. Here is my timeline...
On Jan 5th I solicited a PT invite and was denied. On the 9th I submitted ED II. On the 13th my application went complete. On the 16th I emailed the office my Why Duke essay asking them to include it in my file. On the 20th it went under review. On the 24th the status date changed, but it was still under review. Sometime on the afternoon of the 26th my status changed to Decision Made, and I got the email at 7:01pm EST.

Wow that is a really cool perspective and one I had not thought of. That's why I love sites like this. Overall I think you may be right, but unfortunately I think it harms their interpretation of your GPA more than it aids your LSAT interpretation. Congrats on the score!MaxinCoolin wrote: Hmmm interesting. My thinking was that a 171 from my school (a small small state school) may get a bit more attention than a 171 from Harvard. Harvard would have more resources (specific classes, advisors, tutors, alumni, etc.) that can help you get a good LSAT score than a small state school has. And all else equal, the candidate who got a 171 from a state school would be viewed more favorably because if they had the Harvard resources, they probably could have scored higher. Probably wishful thinking on my part, oh well.
Also, my school had a lot of first generation college students whose first language was not English (literally over 65% of my graduating class), so it makes sense why our LSAT score was a little low. The LSAT isn't an easy test when you fully learned English in 4th or 5th grade.

Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Just had my scholarship interview.
Pretty much just 3 questions: What do you look for in a law school? What makes Duke fit that bill? Any special considerations you want us to know for your financial aid.
It was a little strange because I went ahead and folded "Why Duke" in to the first question and then was left without much to say for the actual "Why Duke". He seemed to understand though.
But overall it was not high pressure by any means. You should all be fine. Good Luck.

Applied 11/3, complete 11/4, under review since 12/8. 168 and 3.66, no PT invite. Should I just give up hope?

UR since December 15th. Submitted mid November. Maybe soon? When do we think they finish the PT stack of applications and get to us plebes who have to wait longer than 10 days?

The deadline to apply PT is February 15th, so they're guaranteed to be done with them by the 25th at least? Though I'm sure they'll start picking up the pace on RD apps soon.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:UR since December 15th. Submitted mid November. Maybe soon? Re: Duke Law c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Well, the PT deadline is February 15 (if I am not mistaken), so, no matter what, they will have be done with PTs on Feb 25th (10 days after last PT application). However, I think it reasonable to assume that not many people will apply PT in the last few days before the deadline. So, I would expect the admissions office to shift most of their resources to non-PTs around Feb 10-15. Long story short, we, the "plebes, mortals, and other untouchables," will be allowed to fight over leftovers sometime mid to end February.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:UR since December 15th. Edit: Also, it looks like most of the last year's non-PT decision came out between Feb 17th and Feb 24th. http://mylsn.info/d/duke/1314-NoED/

After letting Duke know that you would like to do the scholarship interview, how long did you have to wait to hear back to actually get the interview scheduled?

It took a week for me to get a link to their interview scheduling site. After that you just go on and pick one of the available spots!secadc11 wrote:After letting Duke know that you would like to do the scholarship interview, how long did you have to wait to hear back to actually get the interview scheduled?
