Quick question for everyone. Is the "Why Michigan" absolutely necessary? I did two of the supplemental essays but didn't do a Why Michigan. I included an LSAT addendum and a DS. If it is critical to submit one, should I just write one up and send it in? My numbers are borderline.

IMO a "Why?" essay is the strongest supplementary essay you can write-- if done correctly

I didn't, FWIW. Nor did I do any supplemental essays. I was accepted at the beginning of November.

I also got a Dean's Scholarship though a slightly different amount. Super excited but I guess this means no Darrow for me... Congrats to all the Darrow invites though and everyone keep an eye out on the admitted students page! Wishing everyone lots of money!

It said that last year too (well, it said 2014). It's definitely per year.

so if it says that you get like 20 k for next year, does that mean that you get 60 k total? this might sound dumb, but i dont understand is it per year or just the total.

I would say it's "tentative" simply because they reserve the right to rescind the offer any time or will rescind it after the enrollment deposit deadline.

I didn't write a Why UM, but it won't hurt. If you have time right now, I'd come up with one.

Don't they only allow two supplemental essays?

Hmm, good catch. They only want 1-2 optional essays. I guess it would be best if the OP can include some 'Why UM' statements in one of the other essays, then.
