also do these come with your admissions letter?
UVA and Michigan simply release merit scholarship awards earlier in the process. Penn, Duke, Georgetown, NYU, and many others give scholarship awards in March or early April after they have your financial aid information. This differs from the large, often full-tuition name scholarships at these schools, however, which have their own separate processes.
And yes, UVA's scholarship info comes with the admissions letter.

thanks that is real helpful. Are those schools waiting until FAFSA etc. because their merit awards are somewhat linked to your need? And do any other t14s give out $ with admissions offers besides UVA and Michigan (if UM indeed does)?

Ok so this may be a stupid question: I was WL yesterday and it said the "we will not review your appliation again until April" deal. So, if efin12 was able to get in (congrats btw!) off the WL well before April, does that mean that UVA reviews WL'd candidates before April? I'm planning on sending in an LOCI and an extra rec from a UVA Law alum, but even if I do so is the earliest I could hear back in April? Before?
Any info would be helpful!

I was wondering the same thing. If that is the case, it would be great! I would love to know where I am in and where I am not before making a decision/seat deposit if at all possible!

efin was ED - might be a different situation because of that...

When I was waitlisted back in October after I applied ED, I spoke with Cordel about my options and learned that pretty much the only way to get your file reviewed again before April is if you have a new LSAT score. I asked about LOCIs and new letters of recommendation and he was pretty frank with me and said that it wouldn't really change anything. You could maybe take the February LSAT and they would look at your file again when they receive that score, but I think my situation is pretty unique.

I think this is great anecdotal evidence that LOCI dont do shit except make applicants feel better about being proactive

Thanks. If LOCI's don't help, what do you think the strategy is for trying to get off the waitlist?

Oh, don't get me wrong! He did encourage me to send LOCIs so they would know I was interested, but it was so early in the cycle I refused to believe that was the only thing I could do to change my situation. I knew I could do better on the LSAT, so retaking was a natural step for me. I know TLS encourages applicants to retake all the time, so I just wanted to share one instance where it turned out to be great advice.

It comes very quickly. Well deserved, though I think you're going to get a lot more great news in the next couple months

There's not much you can do unless you have the numbers they want. I agree with Wormfather that having legitimate interest in UVA can help with an LOCI, but 90% of LOCI's are about generic stuff pulled from the website. That said, an LOCI isn't gonna hurt you either, so you might as well write one if you really want to get off

Congrats! That is amazing! Didn't you apply last week? If so, that quick of a turnaround is ridiculous. Are you instate?

sent 1/5, received 1/7, complete 1/7, decision 1/10 - OOS
thought id be choosing between t14 and a fullride at a local T1. No idea i would be able to combine the best of both worlds

i'm curious too. your past posts say 3.68 GPA and 3.93 GPA, sounds like 3.93 is the right one?

Hey first time posting. I got waitlisted from UVA and i'm considering writing them but not sure what would be best to discuss if i'm looking to persuade them towards an admit. Numbers 164/4.0 and USMC Veteran if anyone has some advise or been in a similar situation i'd greatly appreciate it.
