i just sent a short e-mail saying i want to remain on the waitlist and now i plan on spending some time on my additional materials and then sending them in closer to May. I have no basis for this other than that it intuitively makes sense to me.Rory19 wrote:I thought I would contribute--waitlisted as well--is there a consensus regarding an appropriate timeframe for submitting additional materials? Should I submit it with my response which is due by 1/30 or closer to the May deadline?

Well, I'm UR now. Nothing really new but I went from Complete -> UR sometime over the past day or two.

Sorry everybody who got WLed... I'm probably in the same boat as you all.
Question: Any ED 1 candidates who were on hold waitlisted? Or was the WL wave only for RD/ED2?

Anyone know if it is possible to switch my ED2 app to RD? Some personal reasons may mean i can no longer commit to UPenn as i once thought.

Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
I think I read earlier in this thread (maybe it was last year's?) of a girl who did that, thought she'd get rejected, and still got accepted with money to boot. I think her reason was that her financial situation changed and she didn't want to commit to the $.UMich11 wrote:Anyone know if it is possible to switch my ED2 app to RD? It would probably depend on the reason, but they will probably be amenable. They don't *have* to honor it I believe, but they probably will.

After seeing the wave of waitlists last week, I am wondering whether I should send in a Why Penn? essay via e-mail ASAP. My UCR2 was 1/8, so I think I may hear something soon. Has anyone else done this?

That's been my thinking. I don't know that it would do a lot if they already decided to WL someone, though.CMC88 wrote:After seeing the wave of waitlists last week, I am wondering whether I should send in a Why Penn? essay via e-mail ASAP. I wrote the Dean Fitts essay (aka Why Penn?) *and* sent a LOCI two days before my waitlist- but I am a splitter, so take that for what it's worth.LRGhost wrote:That's been my thinking. also for what it's worth, i wrote the dean fitts essay and switched my app to ED right before i got waitlisted. also a splitter though.onionz wrote:I wrote the Dean Fitts essay (aka Why Penn?) *and* sent a LOCI two days before my waitlist- but I am a splitter, so take that for what it's worth.LRGhost wrote:That's been my thinking. Re: Penn C/O 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 Cycle)
FWIW, I know no one here knows the exact process, but the theory we came up with last cycle was that 2 people read your application (the UCR 1/2 days), then they meet as a committee on the morning of the days they accept/reject people and go (pretty quickly, I would assume) through the apps and make a decision (then call or email people as appropriate). So assuming this theory is somewhat correct, it could definitely be worth it to send in a Why Penn essay even if you've already gone UCR2.LRGhost wrote:That's been my thinking. Ohai. My only concern before sending is if a one pager is too short or if it's good to keep it short and sweet.Yukos wrote:Anyone else burning the midnight oil on their scholarship essay? Mine is just killing me for some reason.

Mine feels way too short if I end it now, but anything else I can think of to add is awful. Didn't expect this to be the hardest writing assignment of my apps...Eichörnchen wrote:Ohai. I kept mine quite short. It was sub one page. I just didn't want to add fluff. I just sent it...we'll see how it goes.Yukos wrote:Mine feels way too short if I end it now, but anything else I can think of to add is awful. Duke/Cornell/UVA/NYU I'm still considering. I interviewed at Chicago too so we'll see if I get lucky there. Bottom line is that I can't wait until May to be reconsidered. Damn wife and kids!francesfarmer wrote:WhiteyCakes wrote:App withdrawn....good luck everybody!where did you get in brah?

in my excitement, I forgot to include my explanation... I'll probably be there, and my boyfriend and I have two ridiculously cute basset hounds that your kids will love. I think dogs > most other thingsgingerbreadsmouse wrote:UVA! UVA!WhiteyCakes wrote:Duke/Cornell/UVA/NYU I'm still considering. I interviewed at Chicago too so we'll see if I get lucky there. They're the only one offering me money so far, so that helps. I applied for Dean's at Cornell, I'll probably see some money at Duke, and Chicago/NYU I'd have to consider whether to just suck it up at sticker.gingerbreadsmouse wrote:UVA!
