Re: UChicago 2011
No batches of decisions last year took four days to go out, and furthermore, even if you combine two different batches it's still not four days of calls. So saying people will hear Thursday is baseless speculation. According to LSN, though, the first big group of calls did take two days last year (January 14-15.)
Also - I think the MOST helpful thing people who get in next week can do is give their submit date. That way we can see if there's a cutoff where applicants after a certain date will hear in the second batch.

It's not baseless speculation bc this cycle is very different than last year. It's already two weeks late, and admissions said they would be giving some decisions to sept, oct, and nov. So that prob will take a few days - though, I say only 3.eskimo wrote:No batches of decisions last year took four days to go out, and furthermore, even if you combine two different batches it's still not four days of calls. Yeah if people can update with when/if they hear back, I can put that in the spreadsheet. Right now I just have submission months, but I could make it more specific once people get in maybe.eskimo wrote:Also - I think the MOST helpful thing people who get in next week can do is give their submit date. Even if you haven't updated to 1/7 yet, your info would be appreciated <3

Forms would take all the challenge out of it!
Also, I would waste less time.

I think it's a variant of the cheerleader effect.123xalady wrote:i know, unfortunately it's making me optimisticarism87 wrote:Why do I feel like everyone on the spreadsheet has great numbers?dulcatis wrote:Yeah if people can update with when/if they hear back, I can put that in the spreadsheet. You see the cheerleader Effect is a situation in which not so hot or awesome people who do not appear hot as individuals seem hot when in a group.

There's also the self-selecting nature of the group of applicants who (a) are applying to Chicago and (b) post on TLS. The sample will most likely skew toward higher numbers.
