So if I'm retaking in Feb, should I let schools that haven't made a decision yet know about this?

I don't see any potential downsides. And it could delay a rejection until the new score comes in, hopefully reversing that decision, right?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want schools to wait until March to make a decision (and potentially have spots filled), sure you can let them know to wait until your Feb score comes in. Or you can have them evaluate based on current scores and use Feb score for WL/scholarship.

ah yea ok, there's a downside i overlooked.

i know its dependent upon the particular schools, GPA/LSAT, etc., but in general do you know if admissions are so much more competitive by March that I would be rejected (from like CCN for example) with a score that may have just resulted in a waitlist if they had considered it sooner?

lol i get that this is all pretty vague and conditional, but i felt like i had to ask anyway

No idea, but if you were previously only WL material, I'd assume you'd be more likely to be rejected...but I really don't know

Hi everyone - checking in.

Has anyone given any thought to summer reading and/or supplementals for 1L yet? I don't really want to get too absorbed into top-law-schools.com until, well, law school. But I have a birthday coming up and some family members are asking me if there's anything I want to read prior to the first day of law school. It's just so early that I've not really given any thought into the matter, but I figured I'd ask you all.

My birthday was last month and I basically just asked for 0L books haha

Here's some lists I looked at when deciding:
http://lawschooli.com/pre-law-summer-re ... aw-school/
http://hubpages.com/literature/five-boo ... law-school
http://lawschooli.com/best-books-to-pre ... aw-school/

Haven't actually started any yet, but definitely want to read some before starting. It has been a few years since I've been in school, so I think it'll also help get my mindset back into that.

I just finished 1L of a Ride, and I liked it. Easy read, got me in the right mindset for starting on the right foot. He backed up a lot of his advice with studies and statistics, which I appreciated as a science-minded kind of person.

I'm about halfway through Getting to Maybe which is pretty much on every prep reading list. I understand what some of said about how it can't be 100% useful to you until you've actually been in law school awhile, but I still think reading it is good prep. Again, gets you in the right mindset about what to focus on from the start.

I've got Legal Writing in Plain English on my to-read list as well, which was recommended by several people. A few also suggested reading through some cases just to get used to legal reading so you're not struggling with it for the first time during the actual semester, which seems like sound advice.

So how's everyone feeling about scholarship numbers so far? Are they exceeding your expectations, or have you been disappointed? I'm pretty happy with the 4 schools I've heard back from with offers so far. (Still waiting on a bunch more schools though.)

I've only heard back on scholarships from one school so far. Mind sharing which schools have offered you $$$?

Nothing so far. But it's pretty early in the cycle for most of my schools.

Looking for some advice on whats the best way to update admissions committees - since I applied I received a promotion and have had the opportunity to do some interesting travel to give some lectures - I'm thinking update resume and send with a note about the changes? Are these things worthwhile to send?

Is the ostensibly impending global financial crisis shaking up anyone else's confidence about going to law school this year?

I think this new LSAC data courtesy of Spivey is the first batch since Dec. test scores were released. So it *may* include a few efficient Decemberers who submitted very shortly after grey.

For those who are sending updated transcripts, are you also sending an email to each school describing the update or alerting them to it? Or is it enough to just let them get the notification from LSAC?

Just trying to live up to my namesake. But on the real, some economists (including those the Royal Bank of Scotland and Société Générale [France]) predict a global financial crash in which stock markets could tank to the tune of 20% and global oil prices could fall to $16. Granted, economic prediction-making is about as sure a bet as throwing darts at a rotating board through a ring of fire in a tornado... And these particular economists are historically pessimistic. Other economists conclude that there will be short-run losses, but that overall the financial market is sound. Here's a link from the perspective that it probably won't completely collapse.
