I had all ten of my applications in by the end of October. I instantly (within a week) got three acceptances, but it's been radio silence from the other seven ever since. Not sure what to think.jaywhy wrote:Anyone apply mid-October and have yet to hear back from any school? I'm a splitter so that may explain the silence, but I'm freaking out a bit nonetheless.

Sounds pretty normal. I sent in 20 applications, at that time, and I have heard from 6 so far. Most schools don't do plan on doing anything until new years.autumnleaves wrote:I had all ten of my applications in by the end of October. yo is a Feb retake credited for scholarship improvements everywhere? or are there certain schools where it wouldn't matter by that point?

I'm pretty sure every school wants your LSAT to go up 3 points, and that is substantive leverage in financial aid negotiation.deant286 wrote:yo is a Feb retake credited for scholarship improvements everywhere? or are there certain schools where it wouldn't matter by that point?

If you improve your score, and another school wants your numbers and lets you in off the waitlist, gives you more scholly, etc. The original school will likely want to match to keep you and your numbers. Depends on the schools' policies though. Few here but maybe Spivey et al. would actually have inside info.deant286 wrote:i thought i read somewhere that after a certain point (maybe at the point they first offer scholarship?) they only consider the initial score, but idk so i was hoping someone could clarify

I'm well! I do not miss finals at all, so I do not envy you (or anyone) there. I do wish I had a holiday break though. Best of luck with exams and apps!Sera Numquam wrote:

You guys remember when this board use to be fun? When we all sat around, amazed at Duke's PT and wondering when JS1's would go out?
Me neither.
I wish it was March already so I could be done worrying about all this.

Re: c/o 2019 Applicant Compendium (2015 - 2016)
Question for the good people of this thread:
I applied to MVP in early Oct, no "why X" essays because I'm dumb, numbers well within YP range. Unsurprisingly, radio silence. Now I'm figuring that since I've already paid the LSAC fees, I might as well do everything I can to get admitted and try to get some scholly.
Is best practice at this point to send a "why X" email? I also recently had a promo at work w/ title change, so I could frame it as "Here's an updated resume...p.s. I also wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that after further research, "why x"
What say you? (pls don't quote, thanks

Woohoo congrats!! Yes, I'm happy with my cycle so far. Hard to believe that a few months from now there will be some finality to this whole process.Sera Numquam wrote:
I think that if you're serious about your interest in the schools where you're concerned you might be YP'ed, you have a passable excuse of a reason to e-mail the specific admissions offices in updating your file to reflect the promotion and change in job title at your office that your WhyX component could piggyback off of.oliverotis wrote:
Outlining a short "Why X" in the body of the e-mail is a good instinct here too IMO. Submitting two additional attachments to your app, post-submission but pre-decision, might not be ideal but I'd imagine if there was a way you could somewhat smoothly "reiterate your interest in T14 school due to its appeal in x,y, and z" in the message itself, that might serve you well.

I know! I'm still not sure where I'll end up going yet either. It's a new feeling because I had a feeling where I'd go to college (which ended up happening as I anticipated) but this time I'm not so sure. What schools have you heard from so far?

Not sure where else to post this, but is there a general idea on how likely one is to get into a school if you've been asked to interview, in comparison to others? Like I know people have said a JS1 means anything between 50-75% chance of getting in, but is there conventional wisdom on how that compares to Columbia, Chicago, UVA, Cornell, etc.?

Solid. Thanks man! Seems that Columbia has been interviewing a lot of normally competitive applicants this year, but we'll see I guessgamerish wrote:I think it depends heavily on the school because different schools interview for different reasons. Some - like H, UVA and Chi - like to interview everyone. Others, like Columbia and Cornell, like to interview borderline, potential YP, and scholarship candidates. At the former schools, I'd say it gives at least some what of a pretty good indicator that they're interested in you as a candidate. For the others, it probably depends very heavily on how you come across and whether or not it seems from your interview you're likely to attend if given the opportunity or have something else to bring to the table to make up for a weaknesses in your app, depending on the reason they're interviewing.AshburtonGrove wrote:Not sure where else to post this, but is there a general idea on how likely one is to get into a school if you've been asked to interview, in comparison to others? No more than a page is pretty standard, and it should read less flowery than your other essay (imo). Very fact based and semi-argumentative, you're making a case for the pairing of you and X!SouthernHospitality wrote:How long should a Why X letter typically be?
