i know it shouldn't matter, but the 28 is making me consider them over wake (38), when I had previously all but made up my mind in favor of wake.

It made me smile a little bit because I'd already selected them over Wake. They are meaningless, next year UGA could drop and Wake could rise and they'll be tied for 34 or something but 10 places between them feels like a lot more than 5 doesn't it?

Somehow, I don't think I should change my life plans (where I live) because of 1 year in a magazine. But... ahh..

If rankings tell us anything, it's that school rankings don't tend to change much.

Really? Because it seems like it could be stable.

They are similiar to Emory (#22) in many ways, and yet have always been ranked below them. Perhaps thier similiarities in employment and lsat/gpa etc are catching up, and in the future they will be ranked similiar to emory.

Furthermore, next year, when people are making the emory v uga decision and #22 is 2-3x as expensive as #28, where do you think a lot of the good students will go?

Add on to the fact that UGA had a massive number of apps this year (more than 2x as normal), which is a lot, even ITE, and things just look really good for UGA.


Not saying they will stay in the 20s, but I think they may have a slow upward trend- they are a quality law school, and very cheap (which will attract good gpa/lsats ITE).

/rant (note: im deciding between wake and uga, so im not a complete uga fanboy or anything).

Pretend you are car shopping. The lot has two of the exact same model of car, except one of them has XM radio, built-in GPS, and leather seats. The car without these minor upgrades is $40,000 less than the one with them. Which one do you purchase?

If you spent the extra $40,000 for trivial upgrades, then you may also be interested in picking Emory.

With the brand new #28 ranking, my guess is the class will fill up and us WL'ers are getting shut out .

As a WL'er Im actually hoping that everyone goes for the UGA gold, I think that as an Emory WL'er as well that this will greatly increase my chances of getting into Emory (while not getting into UGA) off the WL, not to mention the fact that Emory dropped in the rankins, so a previous 15 spot rankings diff is now a negligable 6 with a 90k diff in cost (for non-OOS) and for OOS a difference of 60k

They said at open house that they'll know more after April 15th (tomorrow) and start increasing some scholarships later in the month. My GPA has increased since I applied so I'm hoping a 3.38/170 will get me some more cash.

Anecdotal... but...
I talked to one atlanta lawyer who went to emory. He was telling me (no lie) that he wished he had gone to UGA. He said all the uga lawyers have such a nice community and sense of commradry. He also said most firms (in Georgia) view them as equal.

Im telling you I'm willing as the only other school I got into was GSU, and Im going in patent law, so I have a better shot than alot of kids of being able to handle the monthly payments post law school (which is still insane hope ITE)

FWIW, this is "old Atlanta" talk, and the stereotype of Emory is pervasive as a carpetbagging school for rich kids from NJ. I don't know how true that is, but that is the view.

just thought i'd say that i sent in my seat deposit, and i'll be in Athens in the fall! couldn't be more excited

looking forward to meeting those of you that are attending as well. i've really mostly been lurking in this thread up 'til now, but i figured i should say something now that i'm an official member of the UGA Law Class of 2013!
