Re: University of Texas c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I ended up getting a thousand a year and an in-state tuition waiver, up from nothing, in an email this morning. I applied pretty late in the cycle and I haven't heard back yet from a few schools, so the only offer I had to tell them about was 35k a year from UC Davis. Pretty surprised about this!

Did anybody else get a message that said that they could no longer guarantee a short response time for the reconsideration form?

I visited the law school on Tuesday and loved it, and I met with someone in financial aid who told me they would let me know about merit aid one way or the other by no later that Wednesday (yesterday). I still haven't heard anything. Do you think it is a bad idea to reach out to them? I don't want to come off as pushy or impatient. It's just that I have to make a decision reeeally soon.

If they told you that they would give you an answer by Wednesday, I don't really see the harm in reaching out to them. If you know the name of the person you spoke with, I'd try to contact them directly.DeathByLSATWasTaken wrote:I visited the law school on Tuesday and loved it, and I met with someone in financial aid who told me they would let me know about merit aid one way or the other by no later that Wednesday (yesterday). I was told that they would be unable to evaluate my reconsideration form until next week and they cannot extend the deposit deadline. I submitted my seat deposit today. Hopefully some money is freed up following the seat deposit deadline!

Does anyone know about the likelihood of getting merit money off of the waitlist?

Question for anyone who's already received their financial aid package/letter. Does the "Grant" field include both need- and merit-based scholarships? Or is it just need, and merit will come later? If it's both, wtf.

ditto bc I only got 2K. I'm gonna withdraw though because even if they think that's what I need, they did something wrong.Holodigm wrote:Question for anyone who's already received their financial aid package/letter. Grants are just need-based I believe. To see scholarships, go to the "Shopping Sheet" and it'll have a section called "Grants and Scholarships from your school". There will be a line that says "Grants and Scholarships from UT Austin" with the amount of your need-based grants there. Below that if you have merit-based scholarships, there will be a line that says "Other scholarships you can use."
I was notified of my Merit-based scholarship in a separate email with an attachment stating the amount, similar to the ones you get from other schools. It's possible that it might come later for you but I have no clue how that works. Mine came in weeks before my need-based notification.

Still 2K a year. It's really cool. I only got in like a week or two ago, and I'm not going to visit by next week so I'm not going.BigTex wrote:ih8makingscreennames wrote:ditto bc I only got 2K. Hi all, sorry for not replying earlier. I spoke to their admissions office this morning and they explained it's only need-based - they have yet to look at me for merit-based. Makingscreennames, mine was also 2k, but really I don't care where my money comes from. Apparently extending the deadline is also a possibility if you intend to visit (this came from Fin Aid though, Admissions was in a meeting when I called). I'll be calling them again Monday, so I'll provide an update then.ih8makingscreennames wrote:Still 2K a year. It's really cool. Spoke to admissions - extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis, so a letter is requested. He advised to give specifics as to how far out you'd like the deadline to be, but he also advised to be reasonable (ie, not June).ih8makingscreennames wrote:Thanks for that update.Holodigm wrote:Hi all, sorry for not replying earlier. so... no movement on this front?
I'm a bit confused by UT... there was waitlist movement before the deadline and now it's silent.

From what I've read on TLS it seems like a few people may have had extended deposit deadlines, though I don't know how extended. Perhaps they are waiting on those plus reassessing class makeup. I suspect we might start to see more WL at the end of next week and definitely beginning in May - but that's all my speculation.LaRetaguardia wrote:so... no movement on this front?

Could be absolutely meaningless, but some friends of mine at UT said that the doors to Admissions and Financial Aid were closed... Perhaps they are deliberating the fate of us waitlisters?

Re: University of Texas c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
On the recent BarBri interview with the admissions dean she kept making references to being new and sort of testing the waters. She made reference to being too cautious initially, evidenced by her already admitting from the waitlist. She also sort of hinted at maybe not admitting enough Texans initially.LaRetaguardia wrote:Could be absolutely meaningless, but some friends of mine at UT said that the doors to Admissions and Financial Aid were closed... It's all really speculation, and I think there was about a month more before the deposit deadline when this interview was done, but nevertheless it may hold some insight into our fate on the WL.
