I'm pretty sure the consensus is that submitting a late Why X essay is not detrimental and can only help. Especially if the tone is genuine like it seems to be, I don't see any reason why it would hurt you.mindthegap wrote:Right, so, I've been mulling over this for awhile: I'm a total dingbat and for some stupid reason thought that Penn only accepted one optional essay. Don't ask why - I reread the instructions a few days ago and realized they're clear as day so that was just a major RC fail. D'oh.
Anyway, I've since written a "Why Penn?" that I, personally, think is quite good (take it with a grain of salt, etc). I've always been interested in Penn so it came really naturally and, frankly, it supports both my resume and personal statement. The thing is, I've read conflicting things about submitting late essays; some posters have said it looks disingenuous and, if that's the case, maybe it'd be better to just leave my app as-is?
What's the general consensus? I'm already UR2 so I'd want to submit it ASAP to see if I have a chance of having it considered. Thanks in advance!

Got the call a few days ago! I love Philly and the Penn campus. Wish Yale and Penn swapped places, then it would be my dream law school.

Does anyone know when candidates typically held from early decision to regular decision hear back? It seems to em that we would get re-reviewed and hear back towards the end of the cycle, but I thought I'd ask if anyone knew.

Where are these decisions?! Penn tweeted this morning that ED2 decisions are coming out today, but only silence so far. *refreshes checker for 500th time*

So sorry if this is another repeat question, but does everyone go through UR2? For my NYU app, I went from UR straight to DLS even though others had also had UR2. (I'm UR 1/26)
And I think I know the answer to this question already, but does the fact that I got into NYU mean anythingggg good about my chances at Penn?

Yes. People get UR2 before a decision is made.mujiali wrote:What to Expect When You're Expecting Part Two: Class of 2018. Rough guide on the admission path for schools. If you meant "anythingggg"... Your admission to NYU indicates that there's a high chance you had a decent application: LSAT, GPA, statement, softs, WE, what have you. And a good application tends to give you a good chance at getting into good schools. But there's no way you didn't already know this.
So: I don't think getting into NYU guarantees an admission to Penn if that's what you're asking.

Yup, I went straight from UR1 to DLS admission at NYU too, and I still got UR 2 from Penn on 1/8 (still waiting...). I think at T10 or T6 level, an admission to one school doesn't necessarily reflect an admission to another, given YP and all the other little strategies that each school uses to differentiate itself from other top law schools. But then, admission to a similarly ranked school certainly gives you a practical leverage and also emotional cushion to soften the blow in case you get rejected.dlrkgml wrote:Haha, yes, I just needed a confirmation/wake up call. Still waiting from 1/8?? That must be excruciating. I've seen you on Columbia's thread though (sorry if this is creepy, your reaction was just memorable) - congrats on your acceptance there!!! I'm just praying dearly for an acceptance at either of these schoolswogusdh wrote: Yup, I went straight from UR1 to DLS admission at NYU too, and I still got UR 2 from Penn on 1/8 (still waiting...). Considering we're now two days behind last year's schedule, today may also be the day for scholarship invites.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
