Yeah I think everyone needs to keep things is perspective; if you get in, then it won't really matter what frustrations you had up until that point. Although I think the bolded is more of a function of CLS recovering from a last minute drop the previous year (IIRC a few students took other offers late in the game, unexpectedly dropping their median to 171 last minute), rather than them actually raising their medians.jbagelboy wrote:

Still, it's good to be reminded that this will be over for all of us soon enough and our initial scholarship offer/date of our acceptance won't matter a year from now,

Not to be nitpicky but didn't CLS's 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles all drop for both LSAT and GPA for last year's applicants? According to http://www.top-law-schools.com/wiki/Columbia_Law_School, c/o 2015's quartiles and median were 170 - 172 - 174 and 3.58 - 3.71 - 3.82, where's c/o 2016's were 169 - 171 - 173 and 3.54 - 3.70 - 3.81. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to get across?jbagelboy wrote:LawBron James wrote: I don't blame you. I believe t had something to do with Stanford stealing applicants or some kind of similar story I read on TLS. Whatever it was, they recovered and regained their medians for the class of 2017. 16 was an anomaly year.

But those aren't last year's percentiles; those are the percentiles for the classes of 2015 and 2016. I think jbagelboy was pointing out that, from the 2012-2013 application year (class of 2016) to the 2013-2014 application year (class of 2017), CLS's medians increased: the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles for the LSAT were raised to 170, 172, and 174, respectively, while the 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles for GPA were raised to 3.58, 3.71, and 3.81, respectively.tonysoprano wrote:Not to be nitpicky but didn't CLS's 25th, 50th, and 75th percentiles all drop for both LSAT and GPA for last year's applicants? Internals on c/o 2016 had CLS at 3.71/172 as well until the end of August.
The point is just that CLS retains consistent numbers and, technically speaking, increased on both LSAT and GPA from last year to this year in a year where nearly every law school lost ground on medians, so they know what they're doing.

Count me in on Stanford curiosity. Also, it bears mentioning that their LSAT median is the only one of the T14 to have actually increased (and by 2 no less) in the last couple of years. I would not be shocked if it goes up to 173 this year.foles wrote:
Also, I'm intrigued by this Stanford taking people late story. I remember reading this too- can anyone offer any more details about it?

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
Not 100% sure, but IIRC there were applicants who had deposited at CLS, but very late in the summer (I think mid-August, maybe even after orientation had started) received acceptances to Stanford off the WL. They left CLS, and because of the timing, Columbia lost some applicants with good numbers and couldn't replace them with equal candidates.

Wouldn't a LOCI be better than an email?Fawkes wrote:My numbers are in those ranges, and I haven't heard back, but I applied in mid-November. I don't know. I say that, but I'm too afraid to contact them about it because it feels presumptuous, but I suppose the wording of the email is what counts. Also, you applied earlier, so it is reasonable to expect an answer by now, imo.
I've heard nothing since October so I'm getting really confused.

For "Reserve Group" at Columbia, does anyone know if they encourage LOCI or additional essays? Other schools specified in the letter both how to submit additional material and the kinds of material one can submit. Columbia's only suggests that they would look at Transcripts. Will they welcome an additional "Why Columbia" Essay and/or an LOCI?

Definitely if you have YP numbers. I would go ahead and submit one even if you don't. I know common wisdom around here is that you don't need to submit a "why X school" essay for Columbia but I'm starting to think that's why I got a Butler with a below median GPA.pjohnstron0626 wrote:For "Reserve Group" at Columbia, does anyone know if they encourage LOCI or additional essays? Both - with the general trend that email = no named scholarships (aka named scholarships = snail mail only).mimiquestionmark wrote:For those of you who have been admitted: does Columbia send notifications by email or snail mail? Held a couple of days ago numbers>75% though I don't think it's really YP people I know with my numbers are getting Hamilton and Butler so I have to conclude something went wrong with my interview I mean my answer to the why CLS question was basically just NYC. I'm considering withdrawing because the LOCI is too much trouble especially given that I've already given my heart to another school but another part of me wants to wait and see. Anyway congrats to admits and good luck to those who are still waiting!
