What is everyone's experience with the interview? Questions asked? Also, never used Skype so would prefer phone interview. Does preferring a phone interview over Skype reflect poorly as an applicant?

If you can do skype, I would. Test it out with some friends first, maybe, but it feels much more personal and if you can follow their preferences, it seems like a good idea.

I'm sure some people will message you with their offbeat questions, but mine was very conversational, and focused a lot on my WE. It was obvious he had read my resume/essays very very closely, so be prepared for that. I also had 5-6 questions prepared and as I was NOT asked Why UVA (despite hearing that's what everyone is asked) felt like that was my space to express why I am interested in UVA. So definitely have questions prepared! Overall, though, it was pretty easy as far as interviews go.

I don't think you can go wrong with Skype vs phone. They give you the option, so take your pick. I was at work that day, and a phone interview was way easier logistically than Skype, and it didn't have any negative impact on my chances at acceptance fwiw

Yes, phone vs. Skype doesn't matter. Also, most of the curveball questions are really questions that are unexpected, because the applicant thought it was a minor detail in their application, but the interviewer will focus a significant majority of their time on that piece. If the interviewer doesn't ask Why UVA? (mine didn't) it's a good sign that you covered it well in your application. As Alex.cm said, questions are a good way to emphasize that interest in UVA. I've suggested (to those that have contacted me) that you utilize a mixture of questions about curriculum (to show your academic interest in the school) and questions that revolve around aspects outside of the classrooms (to show that you're well rounded - maybe clubs & orgs, pro bono opportunities, etc.).

I think that is already semi-apparent. They were on time for their first wave of wait lists, but overall movement was slow for the fall. I think things will speed up considerably now that eligible LSAT scores are in (December). The school will have a better sense of its total applicant pool.

Out of all the interviews that I have ever had (both job related ones and LS ones), this was without a doubt the most relaxed. Seriously, it was so informal it was just like chatting with a professor after class or colleagues at work. Like everyone else said, the questions were relatively personal but, because they were so personal, I also found them very easy to answer. There wasn't even a "why law" etc component to mine. A larger than usual portion of the interview was dedicated to allowing me to ask questions about UVA, so definitely have some of those prepared. You can PM me if you want more details, but it was actually kinda fun.

Also, Skype vs phone doesn't matter in the slightest.

I applied September 3. Nothing. Pretty shocked I didn't get a wait list or reject yet, because like, at this point, if you're gonna WL me just do it. Above both medians.

This is pretty much exactly what I did, and was as good as told that I had good questions.

Had my interview via phone today. Director of Admissions is über nice. Very easy interview, more like a general conversation. He mentioned that his office was reading all applications and then send them to adcomm. Hinted at a decision "very shortly" Looking forward to the movement!

Received my acceptance packet today... what a beautiful sight.

Waitlisted. Not surprised, LSAT is pretty low for UVA.
