Held today. Submitted 11/05.

"Thank you for your application to the University of Pennsylvania Law School. The Admissions Committee has completed its preliminary review of your application and has decided to hold your file for further review.

The admissions process at Penn Law is a deliberative process. Every file is read by numerous members of the Admissions Committee. As of this date, your file has been reviewed by at least two members of the Committee and we are impressed with your credentials. We are continuing our review of your file however, and thus have not yet rendered a decision."

This seems to be different from a WL. Anyone WL'ers invited to,

"submit additional supporting documents, such as one additional letter of recommendation, an updated resume, or an additional two page essay on the topic of your choice."

Essentially. I impressed one professor in a grad level class, and from that point on she did everything she could to promote me.

Forgive my ignorance, but is a WL at Penn usually bad news whereas a hold is more of 'give us more stuff to look at and we'll see what happens'? Is this how it operates at all schools or usually just Penn with regards to chances from hold vs. WL?

Does time between UR1 and DLS and/or number of reviews (i.e. accepted after UR1 versus UR2 or UCR) typically indicate likelihood of receiving scholarship money?

Just speculating as to whether my lack of a Why Penn or something along those lines killed me, since on the LSN graph I seem to be a speck of yellow in a sea of green. Oh well...

I got a letter today, but I really can't tell if it's a hold or a waitlist...

The title of my email wasn't "Wait List Invitation from Penn Law" (as learntolift said it was), but it also doesn't explicitly say that the committee is holding my file for further review like it did for grapefruit. It also didn't ask me to

"submit additional supporting documents, such as one additional letter of recommendation, an updated resume, or an additional two page essay on the topic of your choice."

Instead, it just asks me for my Fall transcript, which I ordered from my school when grades came out. I'm guessing my school hasn't bothered to send it out yet, or that it's still in transit.

So does this mean I'm borderline WL/hold right now? I have practically the same numbers as grapefruit, though my softs aren't as amazing.

If it didn't specify either, it sounds like you're neither held nor WL'ed and they want your transcripts which you should expedite to them or something.

I wrote Why UVA and Why UM, no Why Penn. I haven't heard from UVA or UM (presumably YP) and got into Penn. I wouldn't worry too much about this stuff, sometimes it just doesn't make any sense.
