Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
To answer the earlier question, yea I sent in a LOCI and two strong, tenured academic letters immediately. Also updated the file recently with a note on a major international award that I've been recently nominated as a finalist for (wow horrible sentence) and my dissertation adviser sent a short but strong note describing the graduate work I've done for him. Honestly, I might as well have applied for the Rhodes given how much ish I sent the H-bomb. Maybe overkill, but whatever, when I want something I go all out, like it or leave it.

I am petrified of what tomorrow will bring. i wore my lucky t-shirt today, and it came through in the clutch. problem is I dont think I can wear it every day this summer, atleast not without distancing myself from all my loved ones.examplepdf wrote: *crawls out from under desk... slowly raises hand...* are we sure it's over for today? i'm scared!

I actually made that rhodes joke about myself a few weeks back. i have a feeling somebody on the committee must have said "what does this kid think he's applying to a doctoral program or something? we train corporate lawyers here... go away kid."iminlstrick wrote:To answer the earlier question, yea I sent in a LOCI and two strong, tenured academic letters immediately. I think the key is playing kind of hard-to-get after you tell them you'd drop everything to attend HLS (if this is in fact the case, which it is for me). It seems like they're not even looking for legit supplemental material like iminlstrick's, and all they want is explicit assurance that you won't hurt their yield by turning down an acceptance off the WL if they offer you one. I almost wish I hadn't even sent one LOCI, and I doubt I'll send another one since the ball is in their court now.of Benito Cereno wrote:I actually made that rhode joke about myself a few weeks back. i have a feeling somebody on the committee must have said "what does this kid think he's applying to a doctoral program or something? we train corporate lawyers here... go away kid."iminlstrick wrote:To answer the earlier question, yea I sent in a LOCI and two strong, tenured academic letters immediately. It was hard for me to even send one LOCI after reading, "However, if I open the file to find several letters, odes to Yale, journal entries, head shots, etc. then you are venturing way too far into Mikeyland and really not doing yourself a favor. One. LOCI. Punto."blue5385 wrote:I think the key is playing kind of hard-to-get after you tell them you'd drop everything to attend HLS (if this is in fact the case, which it is for me). I guess I'll take up the mantle from Benito...
So, can we get a roll call for those of us who escaped today's bloodletting?

Still standing, held in January, submitted late October. Recently (two weeks ago) sent updated LOCI and new award received. Guessing they pulled my file, it's just whether it was in the reject or the waitlist pile.

Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
My earlier comment was about knowing someone who sent in four or five total LORs. I've been told that anything past 2-3 is ridiculous. I wonder at what point HLS will be like "Okay you're a creeper". What if an additional letter is from an employer not a professor? Will that just annoy them?
I think I'm entering into the 'paranoid' phase... JUST GIVE ME A JR1!!!!

Like Asha said in her YLS blog, extra LORs are generally just pieces of paper that don't carry much weight unless the LOR writer is discussing something of significance, like a recent accomplishment you didn't get a chance to mention in your initial application.fidesverita wrote:My earlier comment was about knowing someone who sent in four or five total LORs. Held in March. Still standing but I doubt I'll be able to say that this time tomorrow.
Was hoping for a WL, but given the trend on LSN that isn't looking like the safe bet at this point.
