i have a quick question about scholarship negotiations at Chicago and the advantages of applying for scholarships at schools other than Chicago (but not Columbia or NYU).
i just got into Chicago and it is one of my top choices. i have also been offered full rides to UVA and Duke. i would take Chicago @ full cost over any of the other schools I have gotten into - but i think Chicago will probably give me some money because my stats are LSAT > 75, GPA 50-75.
since i've gotten into Chicago, i have also gotten emails from Penn, Berkeley, and Georgetown inviting me to compete for other scholarships, up to full rides. but even with full rides at those schools, i would still choose Chicago.
So my question is this: should i still apply for these other scholarships? Would it help to get offers from these schools in order to negotiate with Chicago - even though they aren't peer schools? My gut instinct says yes - still apply, but my gut also feels a little queasy about being so disingenuous.
thanks for any help/insight you can provide! i hope i don't come across as an ass - not my intention, i realize these are great offers to have.
Congrats on all the options! I wouldn't be afraid at all to compete for other schools. T-14 schools aren't gonna miss the $. And you deserve the best outcome possible. Having the most negotiating power possible will help you get the most $. I'm waitlisted at Chicago, and although I have other options, I'm going to compete to get in, just based on the
very slim hope that they'll give me $ that I can use as negotiation.
Unless you/ your family are multimillionaires and $ is no object at all to you, then go for the best outcome possible. You earned it and have nothing to feel bad about.
