I went off an estimated 1040 form. I have one of my W-2's but am waiting on the other before I update.BigZuck wrote:You could put in estimated info then update later, especially if salary looks the same as last year. +1000. I was going to email Duke today to see how they consider estimated numbers instead since my father won't be getting his info until the last day of Jan. I'm on the fence about dropping in the fact that I am VERY interested in attending but a big scholarship at a peer is a major consideration. I don't wanna be too pushy.WhiteyCakes wrote:ugh I wish I could submit! I don't think they would look down on estimated numbers since you are required to go back and update it once you have your W-2. I used estimated numbers and will simply update once I have my W-2's in hand.Eichörnchen wrote:+1000. When I called them last week, they said estimated was ok. For need based they would go off the previous years W-2 anyway.AllDangle wrote:I don't think they would look down on estimated numbers since you are required to go back and update it once you have your W-2. forgive me for my ignorance, but is there harm in waiting for your w-2 and your parents w-2s at the end of the month, then filling out all the finaid stuff and submitting at once? does that miss some deadlines?
also has duke been known to go over the 10 day suggested timeline for pt applications or should i call them if i dont hear?

On PT.. I have not heard of them going over the 10 day timeline. However, they did say that many times the emails come way into the night/odd hours.. so, just hang in there. I got my acceptance exactly on the 10th day afternoon.az21833 wrote:forgive me for my ignorance, but is there harm in waiting for your w-2 and your parents w-2s at the end of the month, then filling out all the finaid stuff and submitting at once? does that miss some deadlines?

They usually don't go over (but they have been known to call at 11:59pm on the 10th day)az21833 wrote:forgive me for my ignorance, but is there harm in waiting for your w-2 and your parents w-2s at the end of the month, then filling out all the finaid stuff and submitting at once? does that miss some deadlines?

That's kind of what I wanted to find out actually. Since nobody really gets need anyways I am just interested to see if they will offer any merit money. I don't want to enter consideration for that after they've already given out a bunch.az21833 wrote:forgive me for my ignorance, but is there harm in waiting for your w-2 and your parents w-2s at the end of the month, then filling out all the finaid stuff and submitting at once? does that miss some deadlines?

Re: Duke c/o 2016 Applicants Thread (2012-2013 Cycle)
The only deadline I have seen is that you need to have your FAFSA submitted by March 15th, which is Duke's priority deadline (info on what that means here http://law.duke.edu/admis/financial/faqs). Also, it says they review that scholarship applications on a rolling basis so applying early seems like it would be advantageous. I sent my info in with estimated numbers so I could get it in early then amend later as necessary.Eichörnchen wrote:That's kind of what I wanted to find out actually. Re: Duke c/o 2016 Applicants Thread (2012-2013 Cycle)
This is exactly what I thought too. I just wanted to make sure that we went under consideration right away and not when we amend our estimates. I couldn't find a clear answer to that. Thanks! I wish we didn't have to include parental info - it really is bogging down the process for me to call and remind my parents that I am doing all this.AllDangle wrote:The only deadline I have seen is that you need to have your FAFSA submitted by March 15th, which is Duke's priority deadline (info on what that means here http://law.duke.edu/admis/financial/faqs). Re: Duke c/o 2016 Applicants Thread (2012-2013 Cycle)
well that was painful but i can finally post that i am in at Duke at the eleventh hour (figuratively)
for everybody else's benefit: 171, 4.0. PT - 1/3, 1/4, 1/4, 1/14.
email telling me i'm not officially admitted until i fill out their finaid form, for those previously admitted - when can i expect that to come and is it an email? And do they send in admit package immediately or wait for you to be "officially accepted"? weird distinction to make IMO.
love duke, 2 hours from my parents in greenville SC. would absolutely go just need some money to make it affordable for me
thanks for everybodys support!

Submitted 11/14 and stuck at UR 12/10. Any thoughts on whether it is too late for me to submit a Why Duke?

As for the Why Duke? I would go ahead and send one. I did for Penn after reading that they are known for their YP--Duke strikes me as being the same.

Re: Duke c/o 2016 Applicants Thread (2012-2013 Cycle)
During my own cycle I didn't adequately appreciate the significance of this --
if you're an super-above median or at all below median candidate, then definitely write a "Why _______" or address it prominently and persuasively in the PS. This applies to HYS because they have the pick of the litter to choose from & for the others (even ones outside T14 but within T30) because of (i - if you're too numerically good for them) insecurity/YP problems or (ii - if you're not good enough) why it will at least be a good investment for them. Especially if the latter, then APPLY EARLY, meaning pre-Thanksgiving! Every year it happens that borderline/below median candidates who apply early & are qualitatively v strong get in around May/June simply because the school is so eager to take them that it balances them with 3-4 numerical superstars so that their stats stay high.
