In today via email! Was getting nervous after radio silence following an interview with them in late January.

It sucks because I was seriously considering WashU after the scholly offer, but since then I've truly heard nothing but bad things. I even had a professor whom I respect tell me to avoid WashU since I've got UT and Vandy on the table.
I agree. That's what I have been hearing and seeing. I am kind of leaning towards UT because of that.

I was accepted 2.15 and have not heard anything yet, median LSAT and <25gpa. Not sure I'm getting anything to be honest. I've seen some people get scholly the week after acceptance, some a month after.lnblair wrote:In yesterday night! lsat=25% GPA>>>75%, applied jan 15, interview 2/8, glad to finally hear back. Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
If you're targeting non-local markets, there's very little advantage to Texas or Vanderbilt over Wash U. You will have trouble in STL if you're not from here, but that shouldn't play a large role in your decision calculus unless you really want to work in STL (otherwise, why would it matter?). And if you're considering Texas and Vanderbilt, you probably don't want St. Louis, because even Wash U would place better in St. Louis than Vanderbilt or Texas. So I'm assuming your preference is to work in the city you went to law school in. If that's the case, Vanderbilt and Texas may have an advantage over Wash U, but you should think carefully about why you have that preference before making a decision based on it. I would also think that going to Vanderbilt or Texas without at least regional ties puts you at a disadvantage compared to job applicants from the region, so keep that in mind too; there's a regional bias for almost every market, and if don't have ties to anywhere, Texas or Vanderbilt isn't going to be much better than Wash U, and will probably be more expensive.Shootin wrote:BirdLawExpert wrote:So I was planning on going to the ASW in a few weeks, but in the interim we had the big discussion about how you're at a severe disadvantage at WashU if you don't have ties to STL (I don't at all), and I heard from a former student that there was a considerably higher percentage of gunners at WashU than his friends at other schools experienced. I don't see why not (which doesn't address your question). The problem with knowing about what you asked is, most people are very reluctant to share their scholarship size: so overall it is a black box with few if no data points. But if you can show that you would love to attend WashU if it is more financially attractive, I think there is a chance that you may get the COL stipend.gazorpazorp wrote:Would it be wildly unlikely for me to be able to negotiate a living stipend using T14 admittances w/$ as leverage?
Also, you should move on this ASAP before they run out of scholarship funds to distribute IMHO.

As someone who recently visited, I'd say go. For me, the trip didn't end up being very expensive at all (PM me if you'd like a cheap air bnb rec). Also, #yolo. I was initially pretty set on WashU, but had my views swayed a bit through the app process. My main takeaways from the visit were:BirdLawExpert wrote:So I was planning on going to the ASW in a few weeks, but in the interim we had the big discussion about how you're at a severe disadvantage at WashU if you don't have ties to STL (I don't at all), and I heard from a former student that there was a considerably higher percentage of gunners at WashU than his friends at other schools experienced. 1. very helpful, friendly staff. for real wanted to be friends with some of these people
2. some concerns on their placement stats that they got squirmy about when asked
3. beautiful campus/building/library -- private school $$$ put to good work
4. comments on gunners confirmed anecdotally
5. students were very willing to share honest feedback, so I got both ends of that spectrum
6. STL is not for everyone
I am *probably* less likely to go after visiting, but that's more of a reflection on the city than the school. Also, I needed to visit in order to get to that place and be able weigh the scholly against the actual experience.
Looks like we have some schools in common, so happy to talk more about it.

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
Wustl has a few gunners because there are a lot of people here on large scholarships (something like 30-40% have at least 120k), but they think they're special snowflakes and therefore better than other people.
There are many who took a fully over a T14 with little money. They feel like they have to get good grades to make that choice worth it. Some think they're better than their classmates because they got into a better school. Little do they know, like half the class got into a better school.
On the other hand, there aren't many gunners. They make up maybe 10% or less of the class, imo. Most people are chill. It's just the gunners are an incredibly vocal minority, and everybody hates them. All the "gunners" you hear everyone complain about are the same 2-3 people.
At the end of the day, the existence of gunners should not even be a factor in your decision making. There will be gunners everywhere, at every school, and at every juncture of your life. Make your decision based on the cost/employment analysis, as well as the general comfort you have with the campus and faculty (because that's unavoidable). Gunners can be ignored. Faculty can't. The faculty here has some amazing individuals, imo, but I figure that'd be the case everywhere.

Re: WUSTL Class of 2019 Applicants
Anyone else who submitted in January still waiting? It's been two months and I'm kind of surprised by the elapsed time because I considered WUSTL one of my safety schools. I haven't had an interview or been invited for one, if that matters.

Just got Dean's Fellowship email! Still waiting to hear from a few other schools and not making any definitive decisions until everything is on the table but really excited about the offer! Sounds like maybe they are sending out some scholarship info tonight!

Got the scholarship info today. Not super impressed. Got the same offer from schools I consider significantly stronger.

So i applied late, just made the march deadline. Do people ever get in without being asked for an interview? or if i dont get asked to interview should i just expect a rejection?
