NYU 2011 topic, page 69, referring to the previous cycle (2010)
absolutazn87 wrote:So I did some really neurotic stalking of last year's NYU thread. :D

I counted all the TLS announcements of people getting accepted and the first wave produced 75 purple envelopes dated 12/1, received from 12/4 through 12/9. This year, so far I've counted 72 people with "decision mailed" status.

Also, NYU went GPA heavy and auto-admit heavy in their first wave last year too. And just like this year, the first wave had lots of cross-admits with HYS.

So basically, things seem to be shaping up the same as last year and those of us that haven't heard back yet can still hope :)
From what I can tell:
Friday, 12/3 - Status changes
Monday, 12/6 - Status changes

Tuesday, 12/7 - Nothing
Wednesday, 12/8 - Nothing

Thursday, 12/9 - seems like only two status changes
(the thread blows up these days into pictures of cats)

Friday 12/10 - nothing

that goes from page 40-100ish.
someone else continue from there

also, it seems to take way to long for the envelopes to actually get to you. some of them are postmarked days after the status update

I applied ED on 11/14, but I still haven't had any change in status from "Application being processed." Should I be worried? My stats aren't the greatest, 169 LSAT and 3.7 GPA, but I think I have really great softs.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. If you're ED and haven't heard or seen any change, does that mean anything?

I don't know if they are actually great compared to everyone else, but I was really involved in on campus activities, for example president of our student government, I am really pleased with my personal statement, I worked all throughout college, and I come from a single-parent household. Like I said, I don't actually know how much that will influence the admissions committee or how that compares with everyone on this board, but from other people I know personally, it seems pretty good.

FYI, the admissions committee will probably not consider those "great softs". Those would fall under "average". Great softs is winning a gold medal, starting a business, stuff like that.

Are you URM or a woman? With an ED boost and potentially falling medians, you never know. You might have been better off EDing at M though

Neither, unfortunately. I knew that NYU was a pretty far reach. I'm mostly worried that they haven't even begun to review my application while others are receiving decisions already.

I wouldn't worry too much. I called and they confirmed I was complete while my status still read as processing. If you are really concerned, give them a call. They're very helpful.

Already 3:08pm, and there has been virtually no movement... so my guess is that we won't be hearing today. Maybe tomorrow or Friday...

Fingers crossed.

The data you dug up from last year suggests maybe every couple of days another batch? I wonder if they're going to call everyone this year (like they did with yesterday's EDs). That could slow things down some.

Maybe a delayed RD release can be beneficial?

A lot of people applying to Columbia ED also apply to NYU. So as they get in-->they have to withdraw= more spots?

This is good to know. This should be put on the first page so people know this, I had started to get worried that my app was still being processed since the 15th.

The person I talked to admitted that they are very lax with the status checker.

I just called, turned out they never received my ED contract for whatever reason. They said it will still count as ED as long as I send my contract soon.

Anyone have some insight as to why one person only (at least on this forum) was admitted today?

At least they told the person whose mom is an alum that she'd be finding out 'by mail in a few days.' that makes it seem less likely that RD will have to wait till January or something.

Well, they were ED, right? Maybe someone they meant to call with yesterday's batch but missed or something.

Yeah, calls started going out pretty late in the day too. They might have just had a couple left over after end of business.

Actually, it was a status change, not a phone call..but either way, I hope you're right! I'm ED too!

Last year the guy that found out through the alum route reported the news on LSN on 11/30, which was a Tuesday. Everyone else started seeing status checkers update on Friday, 12/3.

This year the guy that found out through the alum route reported the news on LSN on 12/6, which was a Tuesday. Everyone else started seeing status checkers update on ????????
