I applied for the Hughes Scholarship and haven't heard anything. My situation is a little different though because I was admitted last year, but deferred matriculation until this year.
Someone who works at Dedman Law told me that you have to be admitted in order to be considered for the scholarship, but don't quote me on that. I really can't vouch for the reliability of the source. I would think that would mean you had to apply EA, which hardly seems fair. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Here's the wording from the Hughes app: "Complete an application to the SMU Dedman School of Law according to the instructions on the Application for Admission"
However, the HS application explicitly states you must be admitted already to be considered.
So I guess it depends on which one you applied for.

Does SMU have an admitted students site we could check? I ask because I applied FT or PT, and all of my status info on the site changed to PT, which tells me I got in PT, but who knows.

Another status checker update. Changed from complete to Decision rendered this morning.
It was expected, but I figure it can't hurt to have as much timeline/process info as possible for people who are trying to figure out what to expect.

Good luck!
So it appears from several people's posts that there is not an Under Review status for SMU. The app status changes from Complete directly to Decision Rendered.
Does everyone think this is the case?

Sad that no one else has reported an HS letter or news about Sarah T. Hughes...

I had the same sort of status changes as a few people above mentioned. I applied mid-january and my status changed yesterday again to complete, and then today to decision rendered.
I applied for PT program--hoping for good news!

sure, no worries: 161/2.92
been working for about 5 years since graduating.
Also, I missed a call from the admissions office! Admitted with a $5k/year dean's scholarship! Very excited!

Congrats to everyone who has gotten good news today!! I got accepted to Houston today (via status checker), but still nothing from SMU, although I'm starting to get hopeful now that there has been some definite activity. *fingers crossed*

I'm still waiting to hear back from UT and about money at other schools, but SMU is on top of the heap right now. A little more $$ would make the decision easier. I've got family in Dallas and I really want to practice in Texas so it would make a lot of sense.
What about you?

My thoughts exactly. I'm not asking them to break the bank. Just another 5-10k would make it more financially feasible
