Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
The admissions committee is busy as hell trying to decide what to do with all of us. I'd imagine the last thing they want is to have to read a bunch of letters that say "I really want to go to Stanford." They know we want to go, we applied and haven't withdrawn our applications.
Unless you're on the waitlist or have some pretty major updates to your app I think it's best to not send a LOCI. If I were on the admissions committee and you made me read your LOCI I'd probably be more annoyed than pleased.
The wait may be hard on us, but the work is hard on them.

Send the LOCI. I could not disagree more with Product's statement above. Why would you not shoot every bullet you have?crescentstars wrote:So does anyone think it's still worth it to send in a LOCI this late in the game? Also, how long after going under review would you send one? It's been only about 2.5 months for me, and I know others have been waiting for much longer...

It seems we have kind of a tragedy of the commons situation here. I mostly agree with the sentiments of ProductofUnreality, but I would just say that not sending a LOCI is the more thoughtful (from a collective standpoint) thing to do. Whether it's the best choice depends on your situation. Personally, I wouldn't consider sending one unless I'd done something extremely cool recently that wasn't already a part of my application. If I didn't have much more to say than, "Hi, please pick me," then I definitely wouldn't send one.

I just sent out an email asking for a file update. I got Phi Beta Kappa and an updated transcript with all As last semester--here's to hoping it reminds them of me? Maybe?

I still don't know why I check this thread or the app checker. No point. Completely irrational. And yet...here I am...still standing

I'm just resigning myself to being rejected at 11:59 PM on 30 April. Life is so much easier when you just give up.Budfox55 wrote:I still don't know why I check this thread or the app checker. No point. Completely irrational. And yet...here I am...still standing

Just got a call from a random California number while at work
...immediately froze and had an internal freakout
...went to answer the phone... call was dropped
.... ran back to my desk in a frenzy to furiously pound on my keyboard and pray to the Google gods
.... confirmed that it WAS a Stanford area code!!!
.... quickly called back the mystery number, while making a mental note not to cry on the phone, and considering how to break the big news to my parents
..... heard a woman's voice on the other line...but something wasn't right...
Realized it was an automated recording, telling me I had reached DirecTV...that's right, DirecTV
If anyone needs me, I'll be alternating between napping and crying under my desk, reliving the best moment of my life when I thought I'd gotten into SLS....
Prayers and sympathy gifts of Ben & Jerry's are welcome

is April 30 when we can expect to hear one way or the other? at least having a hard date like that = predictability.Dcc617 wrote:I'm just resigning myself to being rejected at 11:59 PM on 30 April. It says on their website that they expect all initial decisions to be out by 30 April.mosesboeba wrote:is April 30 when we can expect to hear one way or the other? at least having a hard date like that = predictability.Dcc617 wrote:I'm just resigning myself to being rejected at 11:59 PM on 30 April. I'm so sorry. That is probably the cruelest thing DirectTV has ever done, and THAT is saying something.DorcasPond wrote:

Maybe they're gearing up to ding a whole bunch of people tomorrow. Not getting dinged for so long has given me sick amounts of hope. Kind of like when I get the first two numbers of a lotto right.Iam3hunna wrote:I'm beginning to think they lost my app or something. Just to spare you unnecessary stress: If it's SLS, its a 650-723-XXXX number.DorcasPond wrote:Just got a call from a random California number while at work...immediately froze and had an internal freakout

Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
As far as the LOCI conversation, with any other school, I would 100 percent advise against sending a LOCI before being waitlisted. But Stanford specifically asks people to do this. From Dean Deal:
https://law.stanford.edu/2010/12/07/adm ... it-begins/If you’ve not heard from us, it is indeed appropriate to send in a letter of continued interest. While the primary reason of this letter is to show us that you remain interested in SLS, it also shows me that you are an active and engaged participant in this process. Many applicants take the approach of “I’ve done my part and now I just need to wait it out” or “I’ve met all the application requirements and I’ll just sit back and wait for SLS to do their part.” Fair enough. This approach works. However, is it a bad thing to stay a bit more engaged? You just need to exercise some good judgment, though, and decide how much is enough versus becoming a pain.

Is it probable that everyone waiting still is headed straight for the waitlist? Why else would it take so long? I just want relief already

Not sure, Stanford would've been a miracle if I got in so I wasn't really keeping up with them.Topszn wrote:Sorry bruh. Re: Stanford C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016 cycle)
History teaches us that all three possible outcomes are still very much on the table for everyone still waiting. I'd be surprised if much happens today or over this weekend, though.darthslughorn wrote:Is it probable that everyone waiting still is headed straight for the waitlist? Why else would it take so long? Well let me eat my words then. You've done better homework than I and I guess I oughta get drafting.WinterComing wrote:As far as the LOCI conversation, with any other school, I would 100 percent advise against sending a LOCI before being waitlisted.
