Not really...I just want to be done with the anxiety lol. Although I do have some scholarship offers that expire in a week.schocolate wrote:Do you need to commit before May 1?grgregregre wrote:

If you're seriously interested in the scholarships, then I'd commit and then withdraw if you end up getting into Yale and you want to go.grgregregre wrote:Not really...I just want to be done with the anxiety lol. But otherwise if you don't have to commit until May 1, I feel pretty confident that Yale will get back to us with something by then.

Isn't it just likely to be at best WL?schocolate wrote:If you're seriously interested in the scholarships, then I'd commit and then withdraw if you end up getting into Yale and you want to go.grgregregre wrote:Not really...I just want to be done with the anxiety lol. Quite honestly, I think if you applied before December and still haven't heard anything, the best any of us can hope for is a WL. But who knows, maybe I'll have to eat my words.grgregregre wrote:

This day last year was the day waitlists went out. But there was a rejection wave the day before that, sohopeful94 wrote:But like when are we going to hear though.

Given Yale's recent propensity to release decisions on Saturdays (and the fact that their ASW will be done by then), I expect a ding wave to come some time tomorrow evening or Sunday.

I maintain faith in another wave of acceptances on Sunday. I reject any evidence to the contrary.spammingrobot wrote:Given Yale's recent propensity to release decisions on Saturdays (and the fact that their ASW will be done by then), I expect a ding wave to come some time tomorrow evening or Sunday.

I'm pretty bearish on additional admits. Maybe we'll see dings and WL this weekend, but I'd think they'd take the weekend to recover from ASW.Bearlyalive wrote:I maintain faith in another wave of acceptances on Sunday. At this point, I'd be happy if I got a one line email from them sometime before August saying, "lol, nope".RationalHeretic23 wrote:Surely... This is getting down to the wire. I can't imagine they'd keep us in the dark for much longer.schocolate wrote:We have to hear back sometime this week, right?

May have to do with the increasing number of applicants this cycle, especially top scorers.SuperAverageJoe wrote:Anyone have a theory as to why the process is taking longer than in previous years? A few groups of files late returning from FR?

Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'll offer a theory:
YLS has been getting a larger-than-usual trickle of "no thank you" notes from admitted students.
So, they need to go back to the pile every time, and order a crispy coal-fired pizza or two (remember, New Haven),
and cogitate and weep and knash their teeth, and make sure that if they just last week admitted a transgender Rhodes scholar, then this week
they need to admit a tri-racial Olympian/published novelist. You know, the balanced-class thing. And as the
pile gets smaller, the job gets tougher. Another pizza, Mr. Pepe!

I think Yale's yield was lower than usual last year, and the gender balance was thrown off as well, so it seems plausible that they're trying to be more cautious this year. But I don't find that to be an entirely satisfactory explanation.

But they're not admitting anybody, is the thing. No one on TLS or LSN has reported an admit since the 9th or so. I think the most likely explanation is they've been running behind by about a week all season and ran out of time before ASW. My previous wailing aside, I'm pretty sure we'll hear as soon as they get over the hangover from what sounds like some pretty epic karaoke.schocolate wrote:I think Yale's yield was lower than usual last year, and the gender balance was thrown off as well, so it seems plausible that they're trying to be more cautious this year. Re: Yale c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Oh, I was coming at it from the perspective of why haven't dings and waitlists gone out. The ASW last week was apparently the largest one they've had, so they've likely admitted enough people as of now and are waiting to see how admits respond after the ASW before sending out waitlists/dings. But it seems unlikely that everyone still waiting is up in the air, so I don't know why they haven't sent out the known dings yet.mdnyc wrote:But they're not admitting anybody, is the thing.
