True. I was admitted in mid-November and it seems like most people have been hearing back about scholarships a couple weeks after being admitted. Just being neurotic haha.JD116 wrote:Same here. There was no scholarship info in the email so does that mean that I am not getting any? (at this point)

Oh man, I was admitted right before the holidays and I've been feeling like I must not have gotten anything because I haven't heard; I can't imagine how you're feeling right now.cc1012 wrote:True. Anyone receive scholarship info this week? I'm right at the two week mark so I'm hoping to hear something soon! This chilly weather has me thinking about holing up in Michigan's reading room.

I wrote a Why Michigan essay but didn't submit it because the application specified a maximum of TWO optional essays. I chose my Diversity Statement, LSAT Addendum, and sacrificed the Why Michigan essay. Do you guys think I should or can email the Why Michigan essay to them before my application is complete? I submitted it a week ago and it is currently processing. Thanks!

I was literally in the same situation when I applied. When I called the admissions office, she told me that they don't consider an "addendum" to take up one of your "essay" slots. So you can use your two essay slots on the DS/Why Mich and then send an addendum separately and have all three of them considered by the adcoms.hunt godlink wrote:I wrote a Why Michigan essay but didn't submit it because the application specified a maximum of TWO optional essays. Since you initially left out the Why essay instead of the addendum, you might want to call the admissions office and ask them exactly how they want to receive it. I'm 99% sure it'll be fine.

I'm not a huge fan of it for a few reasons. Graduating in December is not really a huge plus in my mind because, even after taking the Bar in February, you're left with a handful of months to just sit around and "travel," -- unless of course you summered at a firm your 2L, received an offer, and that offer did not include any stipulations requiring you to start at the time of all of your fellow new lawyers.
Now if BigLaw ain't on your agenda, then it could work out nicely and give you an edge in the hiring market since there won't be as many freshly minted JD applicants at the time you are applying and looking to start work.
But in my case, unless Michigan makes a generous offer, I have a pretty compelling incentive to get that debt paid off as soon as possible.
Obviously it boils down to personal preference layered by career aspirations, financial situation etc.
Wishing you the best in your pursuits!

Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-16)
Congratulations to everyone who's been admitted so far!
It's fairly common for summer starters to begin working in the late winter or early spring after graduating and taking the February bar exam. And having that extra semester of grades when applying for 1L and 2L summer jobs can be helpful.
