1st law orientation is also the 20th. Parking is a few blocks away, I think its $5 a day, but may be $6.taxnstuff wrote:When is the 1L orientation? transfer orientation is the 20th. Also, to reiterate can anyone give me a rundown of the parking situation on campus. (sorry to be piggybacking your thread class of 2015)

I read about the $5...but I also read there is a $5 annual permit that allows you to park on campus. I think the $5 a day is for people who can't find a spot and have to park in the garage. Im trying to figure out if this is true, and if so how hard is it to park on campus (i.e. how early do you have to show up to geta spot).

They didn't mention anything about a permit for street parking at admitted students day. Every time I've driven in the area, the street spaces were full. With all the schools and hospitals on those blocks, I imagine street parking is difficult to find at any hour.taxnstuff wrote:I read about the $5...but I also read there is a $5 annual permit that allows you to park on campus. Sorry to be redundant, but I really want to know what's going on with the part time waitlist. I'm on vacation and am still wondering what is taking so long!! UMD knows it is my #1 choice at this point and since I live about 25 minutes north of Baltimore, I'd be able to get there, no problem. I just wanna know a yay or nay at this point.

The only tidbit of interesting information was in reference to an applicant's location. They hinted at the fact that it if you lived in Baltimore it may be likely that you'll still be waiting for a bit because its far more difficult for a student living across the country to make the move to Baltimore at the last minute. If you already live in town, I guess they think that you are more flexible.
So, there is a little bit of hope for all you Charm City denizens out there!
I'm surprised we haven't heard of anyone getting in off the part-time waitlist. They may not have any spots open and even if they do, it's probably just a few. So they may be trying to focus on their full-time class first because they have more seats available for that program.

1L orientation is August 20 and 21 (all day, both days, required) even for part-time students.mach102 wrote:Classes start on Wed, Aug 22ama004 wrote:I hope that's the case! Does anyone know what the 1L class schedule is?
Also are there any employment prospects data available or any 1L, 2L or 3L taking questions?

I've checked this already, and it is a bit intimidating to see the drop from 2010 to 2011.stephinmd wrote:while we don't know what section we are assigned to yet (though supposed to be coming soon)T14HopefulAK wrote:Does anyone know what the 1L class schedule is?

Does anyone know if the school has any scholarships that you can apply for in the second and third year?

Re: Maryland Applicants c/o 2015
I received an email yesterday afternoon asking me to contact the admissions department about my application today between 11am-4pm. I just got off the phone with them and was pleased to find out I was accepted to the full time day program. MD was my top choice all along but I had pretty much decided to attend another school. Now I have some tough decisions to make! And quick!

Re: Maryland Applicants c/o 2015
I was just contacted by them again, for a second time. I replied I was already admitted elsewhere.... this time they responded and took me off their list...
This was literally 3 minutes ago, so they are still looking. Good luck to everyone.

Re: Maryland Applicants c/o 2015
I'm making a prediction that we will see some serious movement on the wait list side of things in 2 weeks. That gives students about a month to get things squared away prior to the start of class. Even part-time students that already live in the area need time to plan, take a family vacation, decide if they want to accept a new job, register to retake the LSAT again, etc...
Another thing to think about -
George Mason classes start on 16 August
University of Baltimore classes start on 20 August
George Washington classes start on 20 August
American University Classes start on 20 August
Penn State classes start on 22 August
Georgetown classes start on 4 Sept (tuition is due for incoming students on 23 July)
I imagine we may see a small cascade effect following the Georgetown deadline on 23 July that accelerates into early August as other schools finalize their classes.

Another reason it would be nice to know if I was getting admitted... I would love to be able to start banking hours at work so I don't have to burn 16 hours of vacation time!stephinmd wrote:1L orientation is August 20 and 21 (all day, both days, required) even for part-time students.mach102 wrote:Classes start on Wed, Aug 22ama004 wrote:I hope that's the case! I asked for scholarship as well and was declined instantly. I do not think we have a chance for this year. Unless you want to take the chance of withdrawing your application and hoping that MD comes back and offers you money to come there over another school. Also, I did ask about the possibility of scholarships for the 2nd and 3rd year and I was told that it was possible if you receive good grades your first year. I am going to hope for that at this point.T14HopefulAK wrote:Any of the admitted students asked for or received any scholly? I asked for it but was refused instantly![]()
