Almost everyone I know either has interviews lined up or has pretty good prospects. I know a couple people who have their internships locked down. The only people I know who don't have interviews yet are those who either a) just started looking in the past few weeks or b) sent out only one or two applications. Both of those are both poor decisions and there's no reason to put yourself in either situation. I don't even know how many I sent out, but I'd have to guess it was around 20 and I started talking to connections in December and started sending out applications in the beginning of January. I had two interviews, with one resulting in an offer, and I have four coming up in the next two weeks. Four of those interviews were the results of cold calling, meaning I had no connections and just sent my material anyway. The other two interviews, well I can't say whether or not there was a direct correlation with getting the interviews, but I had connections. So while it definitely helps to have connections, it also doesn't necessarily hurt you if you don't have any.
(I blame my 3 edits on having the flu.)

I haven't found this to be the case. But I'm sure it can't hurt to have ties and connections here. I'm from NJ so all of my connections are in the NY/NJ area, which is very helpful in case I decide I'd like to go back home after graduating.

My strategy has been as follows:
1. Send out 15-20 resumes to firms in my practice area (IP/patent) in early December to see if I got any nibbles at all.
2. After grades came back apply to all the federal judges who are taking interns along with some firms who have practice areas of interest. (another 15-20)
3. Apply to AUSA's office (or USAO if you'd rather call it that) (who is taking 10 interns in the PGH area)
4. Send out another 10-15 resumes to corporate in-house gigs and other miscellaneous legal jobs
It seems to be working fairly well. Like I said I've had 1 interview and another coming up. The first one was with corporate in-house and the other is with a federal judge. Most of the other places that I would like to work are getting around to looking at resumes now. I moved to Pittsburgh knowing 0 people, legal market or otherwise.

Whatever you do PLEASE try and enjoy this summer, you won't have the opportunity to enjoy life for a long while after that.

I'd win.
Unless Bedsole brought along his girlfriend, in which case, I'd probably be stabbed.

+ 1000, although we know some people who still enjoy life a whole lot considering they're in law school.

You know our conversation was probably much more interesting. But no, you don't fit into that category. However, I know you're well aware of one or two who might. Anyway, I'm pretty sure TLS isn't the place for law school gossip. My b.

This is completely false. Gossip, preferably gossip with real names, is 100% okay on TLS.

LOL I have to agree with this. I also have him and the class is very entertaining. Not too sure about vegetarian options but Red Oak is awesome and I'm pretty sure it has vegetarian options. It's 2 or 3 blocks away.

I agree. I have Mahoney in Property at 10:30. I promise you she would have put you to sleep.
Crim/crim pro is the ideal class for 0Ls, both because they deal with stuff most people have at least some knowledge about and because they're often entertaining. I've heard good things about McCarthy.
