I can't speak to which school is better, but I would urge anyone to compare the weather forecasts today for Los Angeles and Ann Arbor ... the high was 74 in LA today, with barely a cloud in the sky. I'm sure Ann Arbor is lovely, but you can't beat SoCal weather.

I know that UCLA usually tells you about your scholarship over the phone when you are accepted. However, their email said they make merit based scholarship decisions throughout the spring. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a scholly post phone call? Has this happened to anyone?

It is possible. I'm presently negotiating with Dean Schwartz about it, though he asked me to submit my aid apps first.NorCalBruin wrote:I know that UCLA usually tells you about your scholarship over the phone when you are accepted. Not sure if NorCal is referring to going from 0$ in call to a scholly offer without ASKING, or using other schollys to negotiate.Arbiter213 wrote:It is possible. Without asking, there is probably like a 2% chance of being offered $$ if it wasn't mentioned in the call (I think.) UCLA is open to hearing about other schollys you have gotten though.

Re: UCLA? 2011
So I've been reading the last few pages and it seems there is a bit of uncertainty regarding when financial stuff gets figured out.
I got a call 2 weeks ago telling me I was accepted, and then some "You've been accepted" stuff in the mail, but that was it. I am pretty sure he said I'd get more later. I'm also pretty sure I was so stoked when I got the call that I have no idea what he actually might have said. So. When am I gonna find out the money side of things?

Re: UCLA? 2011
I am pretty confident I remember someone mentioning getting notice of $$ in the mail, not via phone call. Too lazy to go back and check though. Also, if I remember correctly (really big if), they said they may have just been too excited in the phone call to notice...JJDancer wrote:Not sure if NorCal is referring to going from 0$ in call to a scholly offer without ASKING, or using other schollys to negotiate.Arbiter213 wrote:It is possible. Not very helpful, but figured I'd pass it along.

Birdlaw, think you might be referring to this...?supersar wrote:Thanks! I actually never got a call, which was odd. Just an e-mail and then a package in the mail w/ the $ offer. Now I just have to decide between UCLA and Michigan :-/JJDancer wrote:Congrats!!supersar wrote:Got the package today.... $90,000 - holy cow!!
Was the $$$ not mentioned in the call?

What I was referring to happened a while ago (probably in 2010). Whether I'm misremembering or not, I think it is safe to say if no $$ is mentioned during the call, you should expect no $$.JJDancer wrote:Birdlaw, think you might be referring to this...?supersar wrote:Thanks! Dear ULCA,
I don't know if you still do weekend admit calls, but I sure would love one today. You've admitted all the people I've been following as numbers twins, and my application languishes in silence. I'd love to be admitted and know any scholarship information so I can flesh out my ASW schedule this semester. I take back most of the bad things I've said about California.

PS Don't reject me please.

Messing up the school's name in a TLS LOCI = auto-ding.Bildungsroman wrote:Dear ULCA,

The high here today (northwest Ohio) is 21. When I went out this morning my car said it was 3 degrees out. I'm day-dreaming about being at UCLA today.

Dear UCLA,
Despite my other acceptances, I still love Southern California and would love the opportunity to consider studying there for the next three years. Please admit me while it is still winter in the Northeast.

Type it up in a Word doc and send it to them. There's your LOCI.r6_philly wrote:Dear UCLA,

That, and UCLA's lack of a status checker.NZA wrote:I continually forget that I applied to this school.artichoke wrote:I keep second guessing whether I actually applied to UCLA. I swear I got an email from them at some point... It's just been so.quiet.

Got a call from Dean Schwartz as well. very nice guy. Surprised that I heard back so early - less than 2 weeks since file complete! A relief too - first place i heard back from.

Re: UCLA? 2011
UCLA should expedite its review of all Southern California applicants and call the admitted students ASAP. We are getting summer in January while the rest of its competitors are freezing.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
