I can't speak to which school is better, but I would urge anyone to compare the weather forecasts today for Los Angeles and Ann Arbor ... the high was 74 in LA today, with barely a cloud in the sky. I'm sure Ann Arbor is lovely, but you can't beat SoCal weather.

I know that UCLA usually tells you about your scholarship over the phone when you are accepted. However, their email said they make merit based scholarship decisions throughout the spring. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a scholly post phone call? Has this happened to anyone?

It is possible. I'm presently negotiating with Dean Schwartz about it, though he asked me to submit my aid apps first.

Without asking, there is probably like a 2% chance of being offered $$ if it wasn't mentioned in the call (I think.) UCLA is open to hearing about other schollys you have gotten though.

So I've been reading the last few pages and it seems there is a bit of uncertainty regarding when financial stuff gets figured out.

I got a call 2 weeks ago telling me I was accepted, and then some "You've been accepted" stuff in the mail, but that was it. I am pretty sure he said I'd get more later. I'm also pretty sure I was so stoked when I got the call that I have no idea what he actually might have said. So. When am I gonna find out the money side of things?

I am pretty confident I remember someone mentioning getting notice of $$ in the mail, not via phone call. Too lazy to go back and check though. Also, if I remember correctly (really big if), they said they may have just been too excited in the phone call to notice...

Thanks! I actually never got a call, which was odd. Just an e-mail and then a package in the mail w/ the $ offer. Now I just have to decide between UCLA and Michigan :-/

What I was referring to happened a while ago (probably in 2010). Whether I'm misremembering or not, I think it is safe to say if no $$ is mentioned during the call, you should expect no $$.

Plus, if you do by chance get some $$ that wasn't mentioned, it will just be that much awesomer!!

UCLA should expedite its review of all Southern California applicants and call the admitted students ASAP. We are getting summer in January while the rest of its competitors are freezing.
