I would absolutely LOVE that....if I get accepted before then
I think I'm going to withdraw soon so hopefully that opens your spot :) but I'll be here regardless during ASW, so boozing must happen for all who want to

Thank you for being diligent about this, I hope others follow your lead.

Shoot.
Yay :D

1. Do you have any idea if UF does scholarship negotiations? Its hard to turn down $ from Illinois and $$ from FSU for nothing at UF, and I've heard the tuition is going to go up next year (which I am also curious if you know anything about) and I know other students were wondering about possible negotiations.

2. Not sure what year you are, but do you have any idea about UF's reach into the Atlanta market?

3. Did you choose UF over $$ at peer schools and other higher ranked schools? If so, why? Are you glad you did?

Thanks!!

Which state are you in? Apparently people in Gainesville haven't even gotten their letters yet. I'm dying over here in TX.

I had a meeting with the assistant dean for admissions last week (she is crazy nice btw) and she said the law school wasn't as affected as the rest of UF by budget cuts. She said to expect 5 to 10 percent max increase in tuition every year... she also said that merit based scholarships are made on a weekly basis and just because you haven't heard about a scholarship yet doesn't mean you aren't getting anything.

Good luck to everyone still waiting, she had a MOUNTAIN of application files on her desk that she was reviewing.

In your opinion would it be a bad idea to call and ask about scholarship/grant considerations and let them know of other offers you have?

Well, I didn't get the vibe that they really negotiated a lot or that there was a large amount of money to be had. She did say that the committee that makes need-based decisions hasn't met yet so not to expect that for a couple more weeks (fill out the form and send it in if you haven't). For what it's worth, she said that she would consider UF's peer schools to be FSU, Georgia, and American so if you had a scholarship offer from one of those schools, you could definitely try and leverage it. With that said, I don't see how it could hurt to try... you've already been accepted. I would probably e-mail Adorno rather than call anyone. She seemed on top of things when I was there.

Thanks! I've got an offer from FSU that I wouldn't even expect them to match, but anything would be wonderful. I'll shoot her an email and ask her about a list of other scholarships, etc. I haven't filled out that form. Was it in the acceptance package? I wonder if February 25th is too late to turn it in, then I could just in person. Hmm..

uuuuh no. haha. I don't think anyone will be matching Indiana's rediculous scholarships. UF is pretty much the opposite of Indiana when it comes to $$ lol.

Yea, IU seems like they know what they are doing. They want to boost their LSAT. UF held my app and IU is like , here, heres 120k.

I'm going to have a hell of a time deciding between IU/120k and UGA/UF/FSU - sticker in state (not holding out much hope for small scholarships with my splitterness)

Idk. Sticker at UGA is risky, depending on what kind of law you want. If you want Atlanta, go Emory, or GSU for cheap. GSU is getting more competitive every year. My UGA friends either got Atlanta biglaw (top 5-10%), midlaw, or Birmingham. Of course, it's anecdotal, but I grew up right outside of Athens and I know a ton of law students. With your LSAT, I think Emory would take you for sure. From what a reliable UGA 2L told me, Atlanta favors Emory overall, but will take GSU top 10% over UGA 25%.

EDIT: Your love for Athens is credited :) (but is it worth sticker?)

I'm going to def do some in depth employment/cost/QOL spreadsheeting soon.... Emory at sticker scares me ITE. Atleast UGA debt wouldn't be soul crushing 175k+.

True. & I'm not sure how generous Emory is with $$. Would you mind PMing me what you end up with? If this cycle doesn't go well, I'm going to retake, and that stuff will be useful :)

ease of in-state tuition most get for 2/3L makes it kinda attractive on the financial front against Emory and GSU

Being from GA, I haven't had to consider getting in-state for 2L/3L, but if it is easy, that could change things. Though in-state for GSU is already ridiculously low at 11K. Emory... very expensive. Probably not worth it ITE. So Sandro, I'd say take your chances with UGA if you feel confident.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
