That being said, I have no evidence/experience to back that up, and I could be totally wrong. But like Pearalegal just suggested, I sort of doubt that law firms have a framed copy of USNWR on their desks... I mean I'm sure ranking matters, but a 6-point difference outside of T14, especially between 2 schools that have switched places in the rankings in the past more than a couple of times, just seems like it would be negligible in real life.H. What about the fact that BU didn't break T25, and was outranked by BC, until 2004? Those partners at your firm have only been there for about 5 years?DrGuano wrote: Top 25 is a big deal at this firm despite the menial difference. While I agree with you Burger thats just the way things are. I have been told that by multiple associates, partners, legal recruiters, managers, and other paras who have come back this summer as summer associates. Getting three or four questions right on the LSAT is the difference between getting into Harvard or getting into BU for some people.
Is it fair? No. But thats the way things work here.
If you don't like it wait til you meet some of the people they hire at firms like these. No social skills whatsoever. Completely based their hirings on their numbers in law school. It's quite unbelievable how someone so brilliant can turn into such an awful professional.

No worries. I think we all enjoy being adversarial by nature given our career paths.

Judging from BU's LSN the last few years, it doesn't really seem like they YP too much. That being said, they're definitely admitting mostly applicants who are in their "target" range of numbers, as opposed to those above both their 75th.MSPeast wrote:Do you guys think BU is running some YP right now? Looks like not many people with 170+ have been admitted yet. Do you think BU is waiting for more of that pool to get acceptances elsewhere and withdraw before sending out letters to those left? Look at how many 166-168s have been admitted compared to 170+.
For what it's worth, I applied in late October, went complete 11/19, and haven't heard a peep from them.

I went complete at the beginning of November, the 5th I think, and haven't heard a thing. URM splitter, so that complicates things, but still. I would like to get a decision back. Is it fair to start calling schools after the 2 month mark? Seeing as my ED won't work out, I would like to have all my decisions by the end of Jan, since I was complete every at the beginning of November or earlier.

Complete November 10 but no notification. They're not generally known for YP.

I just randomly found this and I think it answers your particular question, Burger. Sullivan & Cromwell is a top 5 law firm based in New York. Their website says that they have 10 BU associates and no BU partners compared with 4 BC associates and 1 BC partner. Seems to be evidence that BU has more recruiting weight at least with big NY law firms.managamy wrote:I stand corrected! I still wonder what the situation would be like if there weren't any partners who went to BU though.

I wonder why someone would choose BU for the NYC market anyway. Shouldnt the primary focus be Boston? I suppose it can't hurt to place decently in other markets though.ls10 wrote:I just randomly found this and I think it answers your particular question, Burger. i could see that choice if you got denied from fordham. my guess would be BU > Cardozo, even for NYCtram988 wrote:I wonder why someone would choose BU for the NYC market anyway.
