New Haven is a great dining destination in its own right; more restaurants per capita than any other city in the US, I believe. Specifically in terms of "ethnic" food (I'll assume you mean non-European) --- beyond a lot of Japanese, Indian and Thai, there's also more hard to find stuff, like Vietnamese, Cuban, and Ethiopian. The food is good, too, there are a lot of highly rated restaurants around...Veritas2010 wrote:I've visited a couple of times (for mock trial stuff and a conference). There were a couple of decent cafes, dining places nearby but nothing like NYC or Chicago ... and I'm a big fan of ethnic food so I don't know how I'll deal with that.![]()
On the plus side, NYC isn't all that far away so if anyone's really REALLY craving decent Chinese or Italian or Thai, the city isn't that far away for a weekend trip.

Re: Yale 2010
For any school with a reputation for snobbishness, I would say this is more true of the undergrad than the law school, although my impression of Yale undergrad has always been more positive in that regard (i.e., they're not snobby, sorry if that was confusing) than, say, Dartmouth or Princeton. It's hard to be a snob in law school, and legacy is much, much weaker if existent at all.Veritas2010 wrote:Actually what I am worried about is the people/environment. I've heard that they can be very snobbish and I don't know how true that is. I'm sure every place has it's nice people and snobs etc.
Does anyone have any personal knowledge or opinions about this? Thanks!

Re: Yale 2010
Honestly, one of the reasons I want to go to Yale is because I read that one blog post about all the free food and I really love Indian and Thai food. My loyalty is easily bought with chicken tikka masala.rowlf wrote:New Haven is a great dining destination in its own right; more restaurants per capita than any other city in the US, I believe. I heard Yale is good at law stuff too, or something like that.

You've heard wrong. I visited last week and the students were very open and friendly. If anything, I've heard (and seen) that the YLS student body is one of the most tightly knit and sociable groups around.Veritas2010 wrote:Actually what I am worried about is the people/environment. And yes, Tomhobbes, chicken tikka masala is amazing.

No, I mean Desert Fox wrote a question after that post where she responded to TLS members (including yourself) asking about typos. She responded and made a quip about finding friends on the internet at "USS: Spellcheck" in order to make sure there weren't any typos. I thought it was pretty funny.crackberry wrote:I don't touch USS: BP w/ 10 foot pole. Please recap.Kronk wrote:Her response in that post to Desert Fox's question.

The problem is that the USS Spellcheck thread would quickly devolve into a bunch of regulars trading inside jokes and asking for pictures of each other.

Yeah I was thinking about that, but we mix in the occasional useful post here and there, along with some Yale speculation. And I don't want any pictures of you guys.crackberry wrote:Fixedtomhobbes wrote:The problem is that the USS Spellcheck thread would quickly devolve into a bunch of regulars trading inside jokes and asking for pictures of each other - like this one.

The comments are just full of win now. You have got to love someone referencing the urban dictionary definition of oralist. Not going to see that every day.
