Hey guys, what do you think is the ideal length for a letter of recommendation?

I'm guessing all of us waived our rights to read them (if we were good children!) so no one can answer for sure, but the undergrad professor I asked hasn't written one for law schools before. She was asking me for a few housekeeping details: length, spacing etc.

I have zero ACTUAL knowledge due to the aformentioned reasons but I work for a Med School and the letters of rec we receive are usually 1-2 pages (header included). About half of the one page letters are a template where they just changed demo type info, and the other half are more personalized. 90% of the time, any letter that's more than 1 page is a very positive, very personal LOR.

Again....Med school vs. law school so not sure how much this differs.

On the topic of LOR. I waived my rights to read mine but does anyone know what would happen if someone doesn't waive their rights? Just curious about it. I'm confident my professors wrote well about me, Ive heard that not waiving your rights just doesn't show that you trust the professor or something? Is this true?

it means you could choose not to send an LOR if you see something you don't like, since you'd be able to read it before sending it. I'd also assume professors would know you didn't waive the right, so they wouldn't be completely honest (maybe), and schools might assume that.

Yeah I get you. It's just kind of weird that they make you waive your rights to review it at all don't you think? Like I get the whole possibility of not sending in a LOR because of something you don't like but I feel like you should get to see your LORs AFTER you've sent them to schools, at least. Like I said, I trust my profs but it still leaves some curiosity as to what they said about me. I feel like asking them if I can see it would be rude af lmao

Looking at the Law School Numbers updates - it seems that a lot of folks have not properly updated the cycle year on their profile when entering their latest information. Please correct me if I'm wrong; if we are applying this fall (2016), for attendance starting NEXT fall (2017), are we then part of the 2016-2017 cycle? If the current posters don't put in the right cycle, that could skew the numbers on the reports, right?

Yeah we're 16-17. I saw some of those numbers and people do seem to be putting them in the wrong cycle. They'll eventually update it most likely though.

I noticed a minor spelling error in my personal statement post-submission (wrote "a" instead of "at", the t must have gotten deleted at some point). How big of a deal will this be?

I only submitted one application, still have a ton of places to submit it to (where I will obviously fix it). I am just wondering how much of an effect it will have on the already submitted application.

even if the readers notice the omitted t, it's minor enough that it might not even bear mentioning, especially if it's the only error. in any case the die is cast here so you're better off not stressing something small with a tiny and unknowable effect on your overall application

I doubt it will be a big deal (although I noticed a typo on a submitted app too so I know saying that won't help)

I will say you are definitely better off not drawing attention to something that minor. It happened, I know you're probably fretting about it but I doubt a missed letter would even keep you out of Harvard (no chance at Yale though)

On topic, you should be fine. They're not gonna be like "Well I wish we could admit this applicant, but that damn typo means we have to ding them." And if that's what happens, you probably don't want to go to that school anyways.
