Yea, I guess I technically could disagree more. I was more referring to your stance that it could help and that, because adcomms work with people, it's not annoying. It's not worth getting into (mainly because it's been discussed and debated to a high extent in other threads, especially related to responding to HLS communications), I just figured I'd give my two cents that I think it's nothing but an annoyance. In the other debates, after pages of disagreements, it always comes down to people having different opinions about something we'll never truly know.NoBladesNoBows wrote:I'm not really sure what you're saying here. I agree it's generally a bad idea to annoy adcomms, but I don't understand how telling them you're visiting is supposed to annoy them.
SLS has a whole page on its website about visiting even if you aren't yet admitted: https://www.law.stanford.edu/contact/vi ... law-school
There's a big difference between arranging a visit and calling to ask when you'll get a decision.

I think mack was talking about calling once you've gone DLS on the status checker. at that point they've already made a decision, and i'm sure they understand snail mail can take a while/may not be living at mailing address, etc. when we're getting to the last few weeks of the cycle, i don't think it's a big deal to call and confirm what the DLS means.NoBladesNoBows wrote:And to be clear my original post was in reference to keepsmiling1230 talking about visiting, not Mack.Hambleton talking about calling to check on an admission decision. I would strongly recommend not calling to ask for a decision. You've waited this long, a few more days won't kill you.

What percentage of admits do we think have heard back already? It doesn't seem like too many by the looks of TLS and LSN, though the sample size is obviously small.
AKA - do us waiters still have a good chance of getting a call one of these days?

There are about 150 people in the facebook group if that helps you understand what percentage of the class has been admitted. I know anecdotally that a few of my friends from school have yet to be accepted to the group/had some glitches and cant join. So I assume the number is quite a bit higher.

And there are ~400 offers each year, so I would expect they are between 50-70% done.

Re: Stanford Law School c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
well, Stanford reported 408 offers last year. Let's just assume for the purposes of argument that the percentage of wait-list admits is about 8% (as calculated here http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=225363) . Then 33 of those offers would have come off the wait-list. That brings the number down to 375 offers. Now take away the 150 members of the Facebook group and another 100 that have been admitted and are not on the Facebook group (this is chosen arbitrarily but seems like if anything it is an over estimation). That leaves 125 offers left before the mid/late april wait-lists. So there ought to be some calls.

Can somebody explain to me what is going on? Or did the previous user just not check his status until recently? For a while it seemed that they were sending out dings chronologically (nearing the beginning of January), but now this anomalous mid-November complete date surfaces? Is there a method to this madness (cheers to those who can catch the allusion, albeit contrived)?!
