People I have genuine concerns here as a brown, Asian. Reading this doesn't make me feel that good.

It seems the place is full of some really racist folks. I really want to attend WUSTL but the information that I keep running in to is making me question my decision. Please tell me that it is safe out there. People are loved irrespective of their race, religion and color. All is rainbows and sunshine. The racist ones are few and in between. The divide anything but real.

Interesting, never having left the east coast, I actually have no idea how race relations/racism is in St. Louis or, more broadly, Missouri. Watching the news though makes me think not very good, for obvious reasons. I'm intrigued by what the response is for this from people who've spent time in Missouri.adeel wrote:People I have genuine concerns here as a brown, Asian. My guess though would be that even if the city/state WUSTL is located in is pretty racist, as a student at WUSTL you'll be pretty blocked off from that and won't have to deal with it too much as I'm sure that your social life will for the most part revolve around the law school, and more broadly the university, where you'll be surrounded by open-minded, tolerant individuals mostly. The demographics of the university are also drastically different from what you'll encounter in StL itself. According to the school's website, 25% of the university's students are Asian of some variety and 17% of all students are international students.
(See: https://registrar.wustl.edu/enrollment- ... diversity/)
I also found this to be interesting when I visited their website, WUSTL has a whole thing on Ferguson: http://voices.wustl.edu/
If you click on "Perspectives" and Ctrl+F for terms like "race" and "racial" you can find a lot of articles that may be somewhat insightful to you.

I mean it'd be good for students of color to chime in, but I don't think that'd be a problem for you. I'm gay, and I mean Missouri isn't sunshine and rainbows for us either but you'll be in quite a bubble.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
i did my 1L at WUSTL as an Asian and it was fine (originally from the Northeast). St. Louis is the most metropolitan area in the state and there are a good number of asians in the city. WUSTL as a campus has a TON of asians. I don't think you'll have to worry about racism more than you would at any other major law school.adeel wrote:People I have genuine concerns here as a brown, Asian. as someone who is mixed race, i was called in to the dean's office on the first day to declare whether i felt i identified more as white or as my other race ("both" was not a good enough answer). they also butchered my name. aside from this incident, you'll be relatively sheltered in the wustl bubble and probably don't need to worry.

Hello everybody,
I was admitted a month ago via e-mail, both numbers at 75% . So far I have not received an official acceptance letter or scholarship offer. Does it ususally take that long?
Thank you

People they say that WUSTL is the best school in terms of providing a great social life.

I don't know the objectivity of the information I keep running in to. But the pendulum swings again, this time towards attending the school.

I don't know how reliable information on that website that you linked to is exactly, but it's important to take any rankings with a grain of salt. Not to say that WUSTL doesn't have a great social life, I'd bet that it does based on what I've heard about the school, I'm just saying the list that you linked to seems off in general.adeel wrote:People they say that WUSTL is the best school in terms of providing a great social life.

Anyhoo, I think the easiest way for you to see if you feel comfortable at WUSTL would be to visit the law school when it's in session. Take a tour, walk around campus, arrange to sit in on a class. You'll immediately be able to tell whether you feel comfortable on campus and whether you'd want to spend the better part of three years there or not.

Alternatively, go to bar review on a Thursday night. That's how I made my decision.thatsnotmyname wrote:I don't know how reliable information on that website that you linked to is exactly, but it's important to take any rankings with a grain of salt. I know what you mean. That is what I meant that the reliability of these rankings are obviously questionable to say the least. And ideally yes I would have wanted attend the campus and talk to students there. But I am an international candidate who has never been to the US before. This is the only way for me to form some vague picture of what it might be like there.

For ASW should I plan on staying Thursday to Saturday or to Sunday? I know the last scheduled event is Saturday morning but curious if people tend to go out Saturday night.
Asking because I'd like to buy my ticket soon since prices are low right now.

I left Saturday morning, but you could stay another day to explore and whatnot. Plus a bunch of us from TLS all got together and hung out so you could do that.valen wrote:For ASW should I plan on staying Thursday to Saturday or to Sunday?
