Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Yeah, what with the warnings during the interviews that it may be a long wait until we hear back with the results. I think this year's a bit different from previous few cycles. (I don't think they gave these warnings in previous cycles during the interviews)
It's fun the speculate though, and to celebrate with people who just received their good news so I'll be hanging around here like a zombie

I was asked about whether I'm interested in pursuing public interest law and what was the driving force of my life. Was anyone asked these questions? I don't think I saw them on this thread before.

Asking whether you're interested in public interest law is just a variant of "what do you want to do with a JD?" I had JS for my interview, and I was asked a similar question.jawsjawsjaws wrote:I was asked about whether I'm interested in pursuing public interest law and what was the driving force of my life. Driving force is kind of a strange question, but I wouldn't make too much of it.

Yep, they're all based off the slots, so they may not be exact. And I think there are 1,000-1,200 total interviews, but I don't know for sure.

What you're looking for is the ABA's 509 report. Each law school is required to submit one every year. It won't have the info on international/state presence, but there's plenty else to keep you busy.pylon wrote:Anyone know how to find this link (HLS Profile and Facts) for Class of 2016, Class of 2015, etc.?

Are people getting full tuition/more than full tuition in scholarship/financial aid? How and who are those people?

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
No one at HLS gets even close to full tuition. HYS all have need-based programs where they take into consideration your resources and the resources of your parents, then give you an 'expected contribution' number. If that number is less than tuition + COL, they'll give you grant money. If not, you get to pay the whole bill.Harvette wrote:Are people getting full tuition/more than full tuition in scholarship/financial aid? How and who are those people?
Edit: One extra caveat, they will expect you to take out loans before you get any grant money. I forget what the actual number is, but I think it's around $40k. So, for example, if they think you can pay $20k, but the cost of attendance is $80k, they'd give you $20k in grant money, requiring you to take out at least $40k to make up the difference.

This isn't entirely true. Harvard has a general scholarship committee that is open to students at all the schools at the university, including the law school. They all have really weird qualifiers, but can be worth looking into because all my tuition is covered by one.HorseThief wrote:No one at HLS gets even close to full tuition. Has it been discussed that Harvard has officially switched to "Highest LSAT Only?" This totally flew under my radar.

This information is brilliant! Never noticed before.politics89 wrote: This isn't entirely true. Link to the scholarship committee's website: http://www.scholarship.harvard.edu/index.html
BTW, for international students, even if you do not see HLS listed under the fellowship for you country, make sure you check detailed descriptions by clicking the link or searching the fund or whatever. I've found several fellowships eligible for law students, even though the general information page for international students does not mention hls at all.

Re: Harvard c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 Cycle)
Also, HLS students with a spouse and children can have their total cost of attendance adjusted above the standard level. E.g., I am married and have three children and my COA is around $120k/year as calculated by the law school and I have heard similar numbers from other students with children. This means that you may qualify for a full tuition grant if your adjusted total cost of attendance less the mandatory loan requirement and personal/parental/spousal contributions still meets or exceeds tuition. The school will not provide a need-based grant which exceeds tuition, though.politics89 wrote:This isn't entirely true.
