Talked to a friend that was deferred last cycle and then waitlisted, but accepted deep into August... looks like I have a long ride to look forward to!

Aight, given that Scotty is deferred and won't be making the C/O2017 thread in the class forum, shall I go ahead and do that? Just wanted to give someone who is committed to Michigan already rights of first refusal since there's still a chance I may go elsewhere - although I can always make it now and pass it off later.

Anyone know if Michigan has started releasing RD decisions yet? I'm right on the margins there and a splitter (171, 3.5), and am wondering when I should start getting anxious.

They have. Only acceptances so far, and those appear to be roughly (but not always) based on when you went complete.scorneli wrote:Anyone know if Michigan has started releasing RD decisions yet? I emailed Michigan to see what else I can do... I'll be sending an LOCI as well as another optional essay, may be asking for another LOR as well!

Yea I responded to the admissions office that I had about 50 people on the internet that swear I'm perfect for Michigan.lastsamurai wrote:I think you could find a few people ITT to write your LOR...scotth724 wrote:I emailed Michigan to see what else I can do... i got into another school early decision and without notifying them michigan's status checker now (5 days later) says "withdrawn." does anyone know if schools are told by the school i'm accepted to to withdraw my application? especially because i received no instructions telling me to do anything regarding withdrawing

Sounds like they must have been communicating, though I haven't seen anyone talk about this before.1948 wrote:i got into another school early decision and without notifying them michigan's status checker now (5 days later) says "withdrawn." does anyone know if schools are told by the school i'm accepted to to withdraw my application? especially because i received no instructions telling me to do anything regarding withdrawing

I know they share info about students who are committed to multiple schools later in the summer. Maybe they do something similar earlier with ED, but I hadn't heard of it.
Still, OP, I would read carefully over every ED agreement you signed and all their messages. You probably were supposed to withdraw all other apps immediately after being accepted. You should withdraw any that are still active now.

Why does it even matter at this point? Your ED school saved you the trouble of emailing Michigan to tell them.1948 wrote:i got into another school early decision and without notifying them michigan's status checker now (5 days later) says "withdrawn." does anyone know if schools are told by the school i'm accepted to to withdraw my application? especially because i received no instructions telling me to do anything regarding withdrawing

It matters because knowing the extent to which schools communicate with one another throughout the decision process changes everything.californiauser wrote:Why does it even matter at this point? Re: Michigan Applicants C/O 2017 (Applicants 2013-2014)
It could certainly influence scholarship negotiation. If a school knows that someone was denied HYS as opposed to being on the wait-list, perhaps a CCN would be less likely to offer a larger scholarship, knowing that they are your highest ranked choice still available?
Edit: This is if the OP meant that the schools communicate in general about students' status, which I doubt they do to that extent. For ED students? I'm not sure how communication of this nature would change anything since you're contractually obligated to withdraw everywhere else anyway.
