we have pretty similar numbers and I'm also a resident. when did you submit? I didn't get a waitlist today so I'm hoping no news is good news at least for now

LSAC just updated my transcript with fall grades which bumped up my GPA not insignificantly. Will LSAC automatically contact the schools to let them know or should I?

I was told that they would be calling again within the next few weeks with a scholarship offer for me.

No kidding, it looked for a while like they'd chucked YP out the window this cycle.

Haha, I, too, am a reverse splitter. I did ask Jason about scholarships. He said to negotiate later in the cycle once I have some offers from some peer schools... Not out of the question to get scholarships, but we may not be in their sweet spot for lots o cash.

Just got a waitlist email. International applicant (so non-resident), 168, 3.92. Applied in Sept.

Is it me or it's a bit early for the waitlists to come out?

They also mentionned it's an unranked waitlist. Is this common for law schools?

Anyone have any opinion on how heavily the waitlist pool is going to be used in this cycle? In the past, UVA has dipped into the waitlist pretty deeply for applicants, but with the heavy amount of money they're throwing around for high number folks, are they strictly trying to avoid this?

I'm also confused by what is seemingly a large number of YP candidates on the waitlist given the scholarship offers they've already thrown out. There have been rumblings on TLS about UVA trying to move up in USNWR rankings, but the YP wave yesterday seems to contradict that. Any thoughts on this most recent movement?

In my opinion unfortunately for UVA, the bros they threw money at will not actually attend, they will go to better schools.

I'm guessing they will pull from the waitlist like usual. Wouldn't be surprised if most every school dropped one LSAT point in their medians, there are just so few 170+ scorers out there.

It's a little early to say that. I've already been accepted at NYU and I'm very competitive for Columbia, and the only school I'm not going to UVA for is probably H. Money talks.

Those who were probably YP'd... Any optional essays? Why UVAs, Diversity Statements, etc.?

If you look at those who are getting $, many are 169/170s who will likely max out at MVPB or get CCN without $, splitters who again seem likely to strike out above MVPB, and a few full rides who are competitive for HYS. Under these circumstances, it's too early to guess at WL activity.

Sorry, I was feeling grumpy yesterday. I think that it's really smart what UVA is doing, and I'm not sure about this whole "YP" thing. Like has been said, people with HYS numbers have gotten in, and have gotten really good scholarships. Most likely, if you had numbers that were more than competitive at UVA and were WL'ed, it's because you didn't show enough interest in your application. This may or may not be new behavior from them, but it makes sense that they would admit NoodleyOne because he's a resident and his interest probably came through in his application but would WL someone with identical numbers but whose application came across as generic and someone who applied to 10+ schools. Now, if there were a really evident ceiling, above which no one was getting in, then yield protection could be a serious consideration, but I don't think there's any evidence for that right now.

I wrote a diversity statement. While I had a paragraph dedicated to why UVA within my PS, I did not have a separate why UVA essay. I sent on an LOCI that more clearly articulated why UVA is a top choice for me. Hoping it helps!

You were the exception I was thinking of. Lolno to the Pacificas, elterribles, bernaldiazs of the world attending UVA.

Also waitlisted yesterday. 3.38/172/non-resident. Diversity statement, no Why UVA. Submitted RD application the first week of September.

I have no interest in going to Virginia and I don't even know what I would put in a LOCI, so I probably won't send one.
