Hey all, just opened my TLS account, but anyway...
Just withdrew from Hastings and put $10K scholarship back into the pool. Best of luck to everyone on the waitlist! Take initiative!

For anyone who has called the Office of Admissions at UC Hastings, was it a positive conversation or did the person on the other end seem annoyed? Positive, negative or passive agressive, what was the topic of your conversation?

Submitted deposit yesterday!
I received a nice grant as well. Hastings all of a sudden became affordable for me, which is tough to say about California schools. Now I need to convince my girlfriend to apply to UCSF Med so we both can move to Norcal

I withdrew today. Just couldn't make the numbers work for me. Good luck to the rest of you and I hope my spot goes to a fellow TLSer.

If I ever get the email from Hastings I'm just going to respond with a curt message saying that I don't accept additional information from schools.

Thank you! I'm set on transferring after a year at ████████████████████. I know it's going to be a bitch, but I'm prepared to do whatever it takes.ilovesf wrote:SorrySchopenhauerFTW wrote:Looks like I'll be transferring in a year.I hope things work out where ever you end up going!

Just got the "are you still interested" email. I had moved on from Hastings, but now I don't know! Ahh, waitlists suck. Not sure if Hastings is worth it.

You are very lucky you got the still interested email. I just got the "Fall class is currently full" email.

Re: UC Hastings 2011
I had to make the same decision and ultimately chose Hastings. It came down to a couple things. Obviously the location is very different. Although Austin seemed cool, I love the Bay Area and ultimately could see myself practicing there more than Texas. I also talked with a number of the Alumni from Hastings and told them my concerns about it being in direct competition with grads from Berkley and Stanford (and to some degree Davis). Granted their opinions were likely biased, but Hastings has a much larger alumni network in the Bay Area than any other school by a huge margin (including Judges on the bench) and most of them had stories of having beat out individuals from the higher ranked schools for various positions. I don't know much about Texas's biotech industry, but I think you'd be hard-pressed to find one more vibrant and cutting-edge than exists in Silicon Valley. Many of the big IP firms pull large numbers of Hastings students (Morrison Foerster, Morgan Lewis, Finnegan, etc). I ended up choosing Hastings.zengyy wrote:Hastings was my first choice before because I live in the east bay. Now I am in at U Texas. With Texas's ranking (T14) and low tuition (for the 2L and 3L in-state), it's hard to decide.
I compared the two schools at USNews. The employment rate at graduation of Hastings scared me off (<50% while TX is over 90%). Any thoughts on that? Maybe Hastings didn't manipulate its data while most law schools did?
Anyone know the job perspectives of these two schools? I have a biotech background, most likely will pursue IP or healthcare law. Thanks so much!
