Me too. I already got about $20K in need-based aid. I need help deciphering:zworykin wrote:Well there's a surprise--just got an email about a 30k/year scholarship. I thought I was just gonna get the need-based grant they had already offered. Hmm...
So does this mean:Congratulations! I am delighted to contact you with good news. Because of your outstanding academic achievements in combination with your financial need, you have been selected from the entering class of 2011 to receive a Law Center Scholarship award. This scholarship is in combination with any need-based grants you may receive or have received from Georgetown, and is for $30000.00 total for each of three years of study here at the Law Center.
Merit Scholarship + Need Based Aid = $30K, or
Merit Scholarship + Need Based Aid = $50K?

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
!!!! Just got a scholarship email as well (well, sometime around 2, but just saw it).
It's for 35K/yr. I already had 25K for needbased aid.
So this means 10K/yr merit?

Does anyone know the usual stipulations for merit scholarships?

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
If there's nothing on the award, I would assume there's no stipulation except good academic standing. Most of the T-14 don't have class percentile requirements from what I've been reading/seen personally.

I can't think of any T20 that has a scholarship that stipulates anything other than good standing (which is usually like a 2.0).Redsgomarchingon wrote:Does anyone know the usual stipulations for merit scholarships?

Well, the mascot is a bulldog, though the name "Hoyas" comes from some convoluted story about a chant or something.Redsgomarchingon wrote:haha yes! Good job I made that mistake on TLS and not in front of any profs or deansMarionberry wrote:You mean Hoya?Redsgomarchingon wrote:Bulldog.

haha according to Wiki the mascot has changed types of dogs several times. I thought it was bulldogs since they gave me a bulldog sticker at a receptionMarionberry wrote:Well, the mascot is a bulldog, though the name "Hoyas" comes from some convoluted story about a chant or something.Redsgomarchingon wrote:haha yes! Georgetown Law Entering Class of 2011 Facebook group is up and running. I set the group as open, but PM me if you'd like to be added. I'm new to facebook groups, so I may be missing something.

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
Got an email today... 32.5k in Law Center Scholarship (with 27k of that need-based).
(Is the need-based part up for adjustment or is the 32.5k set for the 3 years?)
My blood pressure is way too high right now from trying to figure out what exactly this means. How cryptic can one email be!!!!!
But yay nonetheless.

Going to email GULC asking for a finaid decision. I have to make a decision within the next week, so it'd be nice to know this final piece of the puzzle.

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
I wonder about this too. The email doesn't really say one way or the other if they guarantee you will end up with that much per year or if that's just based on the assumption that the need-based grant won't be reduced. The email also says you can check MyAccess for detailed information regarding the grant and scholarship, but I'm certainly not seeing the scholarship when I check.santoinettea wrote:Got an email today... 32.5k in Law Center Scholarship (with 27k of that need-based).

Re: IN at GULC c/o 2014
Received an email yesterday asking me how much $$ I would need in order to consider going to Gtown. I do not know how to respond to this.
( I have a full ride at UT which they know about. )
