Its going to be weird leaving FSU and not waking up on Saturdays in the fall in Tallahassee. Not too many good football programs have T14 law schools as wellDr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote:Dig the thumbnailRParadela wrote:Checking in! Just went complete

I'm a 0L but I've done a ton of research on the topic because I'd like to practice in a smaller southern market.chargers21 wrote:Anyone familiar with Charlotte firms and how much they hire from Duke? I'm speaking in terms of the biglaw market paying firms.
It seems like Duke mostly places into NY with DC a distant second. Charlotte is apparently pretty hard to obtain without ties to Charlotte (I.e. You're from NC, worked there, have family there) and stellar grades. I think that lack of ties can be overcome with an amazing class rank, but conventional wisdom seems to be that it's a longshot to expect to work in Charlotte big law without ties.

Edit: I didn't realize the interview was only scheduled for 15 minutes. I guess when they are interviewing everyone they have to get through them fast
Yeah lol, and considering it isn't a decision on acceptance they probably aren't looking to glean a whole hell of a lot about you save for how much you want to attend

Can we talk about what they ask in this interview? I actually have no idea what to expect. I thought they just wanted to discuss finances with me.Dr.Degrees_Cr.Cash wrote: Yeah lol, and considering it isn't a decision on acceptance they probably aren't looking to glean a whole hell of a lot about you save for how much you want to attend

Re: Duke Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I honestly think this sentiment is a little overblown on the site which may be driving your feelings a little. They obviously care about rankings and money, but they're not part of corporate america and their most important number is employment and they know it. If you're well positioned and tell them Duke is your number one they should respond in kind. They aren't going to risk pissing off what is otherwise a lock because they lowballed. They should know that your statement is based on non-financial considerations, but if you don't want to make that assumption it would be totally reasonable to include that caveat:chargers21 wrote:I am hoping not to blow it. I'm not sure if I should tell them that Duke is my number one choice. Then they might think I'm in the bag and not throw me enough money to make it a realitylawbatman wrote:Can we talk about what they ask in this interview? I actually have no idea what to expect. "Duke is my number on choice absent financial considerations" or "Duke is my number one choice, if I can afford it"

Duke is definitely my school to beat right now. Between future employment prospects (especially in the South), immediate employment prospects for my SO, and anticipated scholarship I'm really feeling Duke.TexasENG wrote:I'm a big fan of Duke, and it has major advantages in terms of regional employability for my spouseBaby Gaga wrote:I do. Of course it will come down to the money, here's hoping we all nail the interview

Duke has really great employment numbers. Pretty much only behind HYSCCN and UPenn. Because of that alone, Duke has got to be in there with my top choices. Just need to see what the money situation looks like

Re: Duke Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
i'm preparing for mine right now actually. I have it on the 10th. I am looking at last year's thread and I encourage everyone to sign up for their interview as soon as you can, because people were saying that availability became limited...like in Feb there weren't openings until April.chargers21 wrote:Only school that I know of that interviews purely for scholarship consideration. yeah I scheduled mine the day the email was sent to all of us. I just submitted my CSS on the 5th. That form takes awhile, but the scholarship form just asks one question.proteinshake wrote:so we can schedule our interview before we submit our CSS and scholly form right?
