You are missing the point.. IF someone they have not yet made a decision on withdraws and commits to another school they will reject him even though his stats merit an acceptance. SO let's say someone has a 169 and 3.76 and NYU accepts him and he committs to them on the spot before USC made a decision. USC will likely reject later because there is zero chance he will go to USC so why accept him and hurt your acceptance rate?Lebrarian_Booker wrote:Hmmm...don't think that's how it works. Once someone applies they are an applicant, whether they withdraw or not.zman wrote:They are waiting for more withdrawals so they can beef up their acceptance rate.
So:
admits/applicants = acceptance rate
"applicants" is not affected by withdrawals
this means "admits" will have the same effect on acceptance rate whether you do it now or later

You can't both withdraw and be rejected.
That's like getting fired after you already quit.

I don't think they do...I don't think they're able to do that. Once your status in their system is "withdrawn" you aren't eligible for an admissions decision to be made on your file--your admissions decision is "withdrawn".
What makes you think that they do this?

Just based on LSN for example, you see acceptance to higher ranked schools followed by rejections to lower ranked ones. There is other stuff.Lebrarian_Booker wrote:zman wrote:

Schools can game the rankings in many ways, but this isn't one of them.
By this logic, why wouldn't schools just reject everyone who withdraws at any point? Or just count all withdraws as rejections?
What you've seen on LSN may just be coincidence or explained by other factors, once you withdraw a school cannot pass an admission decision on you.

I think the rejection comes before the withdrawal because they can assume you probably won't attend their schools.Lebrarian_Booker wrote:zman wrote:Just based on LSN for example, you see acceptance to higher ranked schools followed by rejections to lower ranked ones. Re: USC c/o 2017 Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
I've been stuck in CR2 since Jan 30th. I've got a 166 and a 3.45; really not enjoying all the California schools' obsession with high GPAs. I've gotten a decent amount of money from GW and UCI, but I was really hoping to get lucky with UCLA(waitlisted) or USC. I'm already studying for the June LSAT to try to get above a 166 in case things don't work out.karmaman wrote:Hmmm, thats weird, I went through CR1 for about 2 weeks, then CR2 for 2 weeks, then changed to CR2 , 2/19 and been stuck since. I wonder if it makes a difference how/when you got there or just now that were both there were on par with eachother...i hate this wait, this is my 3rd year in applying and I mentioned that, so hopefully they feel pity on me and admit meIve gotten $$$ from similarly ranked Emory and GW already, but USC like other CA schools, seem to like the higher GPA's.
Applying for a 3rd year does not sound fun at all, good luck this time! I hope USC at least makes the wait worth it for some of us.

From the "Application Complete" email:Moonlight wrote:Is an email even coming?
Your application is now complete. Once the Admissions Committee begins the review process and a decision is made, we will notify you via postal mail. We cannot release decisions over the phone or by email.

I've accepted the fact that I will be rejected. I assume wait lists go out via email and I am a reverse splitter, so damn. That sucks. Lol Still nothing in the mail box though/mailing notation (San Bernardino county)

Do you guys think it would be good to send them an email/LOCI just mentioning how I have received substantial scholarships from peer schools, but I would choose SC over them in a heartbeat since I'm still under review? or would that be too much? I'm trying to figure out anyway I can bolster my app at this point before its too late....maybe send another LOR?
