After neurotically looking through the acceptance waves of the past few months, it seems like in most cases, decisions were out by 9:30AM Pacific Time. However, on December 4, it looks like decisions came out around 2:00PM PT. So there's still hope

Does the status checker update between "your file is under review" before a decision is rendered? (Excepting FR?) Also, how soon after getting "under review" does it typically take to be put under faculty review?
Thanks in advance (:

I read some of threads about fr from past years, and it seems like you will get a response during the week that uc berkeley sent in the email. I wouldn't count on anything earlier.

According to this, 200-250 people are admitted out of around 1500. That's like 13%.
From the quote, it seems like FR is the midway limbo b/w accept and WL.

Cuz if you are admitted without being placed under FR, at the very least you should feel special. It would be comparable to just getting a JS2.Southbridge wrote:But Boalt's overall acceptance rate according to lawschoolnumbers is 13% so I don't know why people are particularly freaked out about FR.Arrow4Christ wrote:rigoding wrote:http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=176984

I wonder what percentage of admits gets accepted without going through FR. Are there any stats about this?China Spy wrote:Cuz if you are admitted without being placed under FR, at the very least you should feel special. Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
If every admitted candidate had to go through the second-round process of faculty review, then of course people should be happy or relieved to be notified that they've reached FR instead of freaking out about it. However, given that 500-550 people had already been directly admitted via the "administrative review" process without going to faculty review, with only 200-250 being admitted from a second-round pool of 1,500 candidates, I can understand why applicants get scared of FR. Here's why:Southbridge wrote:But Boalt's overall acceptance rate according to lawschoolnumbers is 13% so I don't know why people are particularly freaked out about FR.Arrow4Christ wrote:rigoding wrote:http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 7&t=176984

Even though both the FR acceptance rate and the overall acceptance rate are around 13%, you are being compared to very different pools of people. If your application is strong enough to make it to FR, you're already above the average Boalt applicant --- and you probably already knew that when you decided to apply. Thus, at the time of submission, you (correctly) estimate you have a larger than 13% chance of eventual admittance. However, when you're notified that you're under FR, it means you were not admitted in that initial 500-550 group. You're now being compared to a much stronger pool of candidates, with the obviously weak ones removed, and many of the remaining ones being similar to you. At this point, it really does become more like a 13% chance of success.
This is why people are freaked out about FR.

Re: UC Berkeley c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Actually last cycle they had an overall acceptance rate of around 18% (http://www.law.berkeley.edu/files/Berke ... t-2103.pdf). I am not sure how the FR process works now but that TLS article was written a while ago. At that time they only accepted around 750, now they admit 1050. They also have received like 2000 less applications and probably received even less this cycle. Whether the more acceptances come from FR or through administrative review is what we dont know.cesium wrote:If every admitted candidate had to go through the second-round process of faculty review, then of course people should be happy or relieved to be notified that they've reached FR instead of freaking out about it. "I admit roughly 550 people through what I call the administrative review process, and the admissions committee (the faculty committee) admits about another 200 or so. So, we end up admitting about 700 to 750 people"
So, roughly 2/3 of the admits are accepted without going through FR.
