I did speak to a residency officer. I may have missed some key information here. The officer had just been explained my situation (I would work part time while in school and my wife will definitely be working in Texas), so for me, second year in state would be simple. For others, I guess check the rules.WokeUpInACar wrote:Uhhhh no.boris78 wrote:I was in the residency office at Texas last week checking on my status (been gone too long and they have tightened up the ways to claim in-state). Everyone is pretty much automatically in state the second year. So out of state just for 1L.
I did also visit Baylor last week. No disrespect to them -- they have a great trial advocacy program, but I do think there is a significant difference between schools. IMHO it's worth it to go to somewhere like UT. UT will open doors in Texas AND outside.

So I know we have talked about scholarships and the matching program quite a bit on here but I was hoping some of the current students viewing this thread could offer me some advice.
Does anyone have any success negotiating with UT?
I know they say you have one shot with the matching program but if another peer school gave you a competitive offer would it hurt to show them it even after you have initially tried to negotiate?
I already got a good scholarship from them and a little extra boost could definitely seal the deal for me.

I got in off the waitlist sometime after July 4th and had 22K/year from SMU and 20K/year from BC and they told me to piss off. I doubt that I was in the best position to negotiate though.timeandspace11 wrote:So I know we have talked about scholarships and the matching program quite a bit on here but I was hoping some of the current students viewing this thread could offer me some advice.

I'm planning to negotiate my little heart out. Once I get some other scholarship offers. It can't hurt and any little bit helps

Agreed. You've got nothing to lose, the school isnt going to revoke your moneyz just because you are being a smart consumer. Try to get as much out of them as you possibly can. Even in-state UT isn't cheap.shifty_eyed wrote:I'm planning to negotiate my little heart out. Once I get some other scholarship offers. It can't hurt and any little bit helps

This. Shifty and I also fall into the "very serious about attending UT" camp that Dean Ingram mentioned on the Facebook page. Still we have to do it at the right price.shifty_eyed wrote:I'm planning to negotiate my little heart out. Once I get some other scholarship offers. It can't hurt and any little bit helps

I wonder why they do this. A lot of people have gotten Dinged in the middle of the night. Do they think that it is a good e-mail to wake up to? At least send it at the end of the day so that people can sleep off the depression and make the most of the next day.boris78 wrote:Well, good hanging w you guys. Dinged via 5 am email. later!

My girlfriend was more upset about it than I was but she has a point. It's pretty poor practice to decline someone at 2am. It's shady.The-Specs wrote:I wonder why they do this. I would go with "not classy"

I believe its because they use an automated system to send out the emails.WokeUpInACar wrote:Shady? Really??teiswei wrote:My girlfriend was more upset about it than I was but she has a point. They do... It's a batch and batches are scheduled. There is no reason they can't run it at 5:00 PM. They chose the time and the time they chose is questionable.blackmooncreeping wrote: I believe its because they use an automated system to send out the emails.
