My section and our sister section are extremely tight knit. It's terribly distracting when I'm attempting to be productive. Because the campus is just one building you're all trapped together, in a good way (most the time). It's an insanely friendly school and there is always something going on.srrrrh wrote:Does anyone know if there is a sense of community at all at Fordham? Attending college or grad school in NYC is always a similar feel no matter the school.srrrrh wrote:In!!

I went to a huge university for UG and it wasn't in a huge city. The sense of community at Fordham is WAY stronger than it was at my UG.MrAnon wrote:Attending college or grad school in NYC is always a similar feel no matter the school.srrrrh wrote:In!!

I'm a 0L, so, take what I have to say about the community at Fordham with a grain of salt... BUT, in my visits to the school and in my conversations with students and alumni, I have found the people and atmosphere to be welcoming, patient and happy to help/answer questions. Srrrh, I would say you'll feel right at home at Fordham. If you can, you should definitely visit and see for yourself.MrAnon wrote:Well I've done college and grad school and NYC and I stand by my comment.JenDarby wrote:I went to a huge university for UG and it wasn't in a huge city. Thats fair. I literally did NOT want to move to NYC, AT ALL. I lived in 5 states the two years before LS, so I'm not against moving in general. The main reason I love it is because how wonderful Fordham is, which I was definitely not expecting.MrAnon wrote:Well I've done college and grad school and NYC and I stand by my comment.

Like Jen said, the sense of community is really strong at Fordham. Don't listen to MrAnon if the point he's trying to make is that there's generally no sense of community. NYU for undergrad is the extreme opposite, but also UG is a lot bigger (usually) than law school. There are only 500 1Ls and you see your section and sister section every single day for the first year. You become close to them.
P.S. NYU law has a huge sense of community too, surprisingly. My bf goes there and has said that multiple times. Although I'm guessing it has to do with him living in the dorms...whatever. My point is that you're stuck with your sectionmates for an entire year in law school so there's always going to be a stronger sense of community because of that.

Is scholarship info usually included in the e-mail/mailing sent out by Fordham? No mention of $$ in e-mail but wondering if I might get something in the mail, or do they do $$ later?

Your scholarship letter should come as an attachment in an e-mail.jrthor10 wrote:Is scholarship info usually included in the e-mail/mailing sent out by Fordham? No mention of $$ in e-mail but wondering if I might get something in the mail, or do they do $$ later?

The truth is, how much of a sense of community one gets really is dependent on how much you put into it.Gotti wrote:Like Jen said, the sense of community is really strong at Fordham. I think it depends both on how you percieve the community and on how much you put into it (these 2 factors are interrelated).
Remember, there are hundreds of law students at Fordham, and millions of people in NYC - it is easy to get lost in the crowd.
