I just received the admit package was sad to see I got no merit scholarship - though I wasn't counting on one. Anyway, in the admit package they say that merit-based scholarship can be awarded at any time after you have been admitted. Does anyone have any experience/info concerning this?

I think they put this in there to calm the masses, but it's actually untrue. Or maybe true for two/three people.Lord_Roy wrote:I just received the admit package was sad to see I got no merit scholarship - though I wasn't counting on one. TITCR, I spoke to the admissions office soon after getting in. They don't award merit aid after initial offers unless a massive number of people receiving scholarships withdraw.minuit wrote:I think they put this in there to calm the masses, but it's actually untrue. How generous are they with need based grants? Are they also offered on the basis of LSAT/GPA ?

I assume they're not LSAT/GPA related.spece212 wrote:How generous are they with need based grants? Are they also offered on the basis of LSAT/GPA ?

Need-based grants are offered based on your financial need. GW offers up to $16k/year in need-based grants, but you won't qualify if you receive their merit-based grants.spece212 wrote:How generous are they with need based grants? Are they also offered on the basis of LSAT/GPA ?

What? Serious? I got merit so I'm auto locked out of any need grants? That sounds dumb. Is this standard policy for all law schools?Magnolia wrote:Need-based grants are offered based on your financial need. standard policy for most law schools is to not give you any need-based grants regardless, so i'd count your blessings.FiveSermon wrote:What? Serious? 30k a year (with 3.0 gpa stipulation) plus first year housing. Very surprised/happy.
Sorry if this has been asked here before, but what class percentile is 3.0? All I know is that it is a B from this: "B, less than 3.167 and greater than or equal to 2.833".

Off topic but are you a URM? Money seems extravagant considering your LSAC GPA.2011Law wrote:30k a year (with 3.0 gpa stipulation) plus first year housing. Very surprised/happy.

Re: GW 2011 Applicants
I asked a couple of GW students and the median is about a 3.2. So the 3.0 they would want us to maintain to keep our scholarships is slightly below median.2011Law wrote:30k a year (with 3.0 gpa stipulation) plus first year housing. Very surprised/happy.

Re: GW 2011 Applicants
That sounds pretty damn reasonable. Actually I was thinking that if I couldn't make about median at the t20 schools I would probably drop out anyway.bender18 wrote:I asked a couple of GW students and the median is about a 3.2. Re: GW 2011 Applicants
In another thread, someone says GW curves to a 3.3 which would make a 3.0 near bottom 20/15%. Not sure how accurate that is though. Just passing what I read along.bender18 wrote:I asked a couple of GW students and the median is about a 3.2. Me too. And the stipulation makes sense. At bottom 10-15% they'd probably rather write you off as attrition than keep paying your tuition.2011Law wrote:That sounds pretty damn reasonable.
