as a general rule, when people post WLs can they please also mention when they received the email?

I'm planning on it. I sent my deposit to CLS and I would be thrilled with a degree from there. HLS has always been my dream school, though, and until recently I thought I'd be an auto-reject...so fuck it, why not?NightHooded wrote:How many of you guys intend to ride the WL? If I'm waitlisted, I'll ride it out. Deposited at NYU last week.

no word for me yet. it does appear that both rejections and waitlists are coming out now... would make the most sense if i got the former.
but maybe i'll get an email from JR in the next few minutes saying, "odiero, you are awesome. welcome to Harvard!" that would be great.
i'd take a waitlist though too!

So what is the current theory on the staging of the WL? Why would there not be one massive group unless they planned on admitting (or JR1ing) some of these clusters? I can't imagine they are going through batches for no reason, and it doesn't appear that they're rejecting many at the moment.

Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
well there was basically one huge wave on friday and saturday up through monday morning. from then on it seems that they're just slowly going through one last pile of "unique" borderline applicants and issuing waitlists. does this mean they are going to admit some more people before may 1st? not necessarily, but it suggests that they are considering it. why? because wait-listing an applicant means risking the loss of that applicant to a frustrated withdrawal (we can see already that plenty of waitlisters just gave up and withdrew) so I think they just want to give one final check to some of the more unusual applicants to make sure that there aren't any they really, really want.NightHooded wrote:So what is the current theory on the staging of the WL? good point. if they were taking so much care just to separate out the WLs from the rejects, you would think there would be more rejects.NightHooded wrote:So what is the current theory on the staging of the WL? perhaps there's a huge wage of rejections acomin'.

eh, aren't too many more applicants to reject. mostly just a couple of remaining holds and a few late january applicants (and they've been getting slowly rejected this week).odiero wrote:good point. if they were taking so much care just to separate out the WLs from the rejects, you would think there would be more rejects.NightHooded wrote:So what is the current theory on the staging of the WL? i would be flattered if this were the reason they haven't waitlisted me yet. it's then end of the day again and i'm not feeling too optimistic.of Benito Cereno wrote:I think they just want to give one final check to some of the more unusual applicants to make sure that there aren't any they really, really want.

This would all be much more interesting and enjoyable to observe if I weren't part of the experiment
As far as I know, the WL has NOT gone out by simply chronologically-determined batches, right? So there must be some sort of calculations being made.

Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
this makes sense except ... judging from previous years they don't appear to have done any straight-admits once they started waitlisting people. Then again, this seems to be the first year of "holding" people so maybe there will be a different pattern. But, if they are still thinking about *maybe* admitting people this would diverge from the precedent of the past few years.of Benito Cereno wrote:well there was basically one huge wave on friday and saturday up through monday morning. from then on it seems that they're just slowly going through one last pile of "unique" borderline applicants and issuing waitlists. does this mean they are going to admit some more people before may 1st? not necessarily, but it suggests that they are considering it. why? because wait-listing an applicant means risking the loss of that applicant to a frustrated withdrawal (we can see already that plenty of waitlisters just gave up and withdrew) so I think they just want to give one final check to some of the more unusual applicants to make sure that there aren't any they really, really want.NightHooded wrote:So what is the current theory on the staging of the WL? Re: Held By Harvard Club - 2010
well, this isn't the first year holding people. they held lots of people two years ago and admitted some, rejected some, and waitlisted some. Still, past years can be a good guide for general practices but there is no reason to doubt they wouldn't make minor changes in any given year (for instance, not really doing holds last year and waitlisting twice as many that year as the year before) especially given the prerogative of the new dean to make changes. I could see a new dean coming in and saying, ok i'll basically follow the standard timeline but i'll also hold on to a batch of unusual files for further review at the end of the cycle.wishfulnyc wrote:this makes sense except ... judging from previous years they don't appear to have done any straight-admits once they started waitlisting people. I updated in march. however, i think we've already ruled that out as a guide to waitlisting order.odiero wrote:anybody else update their app recently? i had some update stuff show up on my status checker for the first time last week.
anyways, as its 5:30 let's just do another quick roll call:

I sent a LOCI and 2 new letters of rec last week but haven't seen anything show up on the status checker.
roll call - i'm still here ... at least until the morning. that is, unless they're working late tonight.

well, it can't be the guide to waitlisting order, but it might still help explain why individual apps (like mine) haven't been judged yet.of Benito Cereno wrote: I updated in march. however, i think we've already ruled that out as a guide to waitlisting order.

Benito, just playing devil's advocate and obviously hope (for both out sakes) that you're right about the possibility of more admits!
